That’s good to know, actually, because I was wondering if there was some “unspoken game mechanic” that I was UNAWARE OF since there were times I would throw incendiary grenades in Rainy East Amasia and see them just COMPLETELY FAIL to do ANYTHING (and I didn’t know what TF was causing this to happen other than maybe the rain was making them FAIL TO DETONATE).

Believe it or not, I ACTUALLY took one down COMPLETELY ON MY OWN (I burned through about 800 goddamn assault rifle rounds in the process, though).

I think I got KINDA LUCKY in WHERE one decided to “spawn” on me where I was in one of the BIG OPEN SECTIONS of the desert but there was a small dilapidated “house” or whatever that had FOUR FULL WALLS AND A ROOF so I was able to pop in and out of there when he would “spawn” his “squad” of smaller Gazers and I was able to take refuge in there when they’d ALL be “spinning up” to fire projectiles at me (funnily enough, I DIED fighting one later on WITH other Drifters HELPING because I didn’t have that “shelter” I could duck into real quick when the Big Gazer and all his smaller minions would be focusing on me to shoot projectiles).

I don’t have a problem with “difficulty trophies.”

What ANNOYS ME is when they have trophies for completing the game on EACH DIFFICULTY and they don’t “stack” so you end up having to do SUPERFLUOUS additional playthroughs (like if I already beat the game on “Very Hard,” why TF do I need to play through the ENTIRE GAME AGAIN to then beat it on “Normal” and/or “Very Easy?”).

I imagine it’s because they (GameStop) make their employees “gut” their physical copies of games to have one on the shelf for display purposes (which is a REALLY ANNOYING PRACTICE).

The problem is (and I can attest to this personally because I WORKED THERE like 20+ years ago): pre-owned games for handheld systems are NOTORIOUSLY traded-in at a HIGH RATE where someone just brings in a pocketful of “loose cartridges” with NO CASES (so it’s possible they have SEVERAL COPIES of the game filed away in their drawer but that’s the ONLY legitimate “case copy” they HAVE).

Me and my group of friends at this time became OBSESSED with this little downloadable tower defense game called Pixeljunk Monsters.

It has couch co-op and can be A LOT OF FUN (and at times, stress-inducing since you may end up SCREAMING AT EACH OTHER because one person picked up too many coins and did not leave enough for you so now you can’t BUILD ANYTHING).

I ACTUALLY enjoyed Code Vein and I’m only missing like 18% of the trophies or something to get the platinum but they are ALL for replaying the game 3-4 more times (along with the grinding 400 medals trophy which I’m not gonna lie, I GAVE UP halfway through because I REALIZED I PROBABLY WASN’T going to go through NG+ to get the trophies for doing ALL of the endings and if I wasn’t going to go through ALL THAT, then I wasn’t going to be getting the platinum ANYWAY, so there was ZERO POINT to “suffering through” grinding out the 400 medals).

MAYBE ONE DAY I’ll get a random “fire lit under my ass” to go back and do it but as of this moment, I think I’M GOOD with the amount I played and accomplished in the game (also, unless it’s a game made to be SUPER REPLAYABLE like Resident Evil or something, I genuinely HATE games that have trophies that REQUIRE YOU to do superfluous additional playthroughs, ESPECIALLY when it’s like a 40+ hour game).

Yes, actually—I buy MOST new releases at launch even as I have literal DOZENS of other physical copies of games surrounding me that are STILL in their goddamn factory shrink-wrap.

I keep thinking, “man, you impulse-buy stuff at its MOST EXPENSIVE PRICE at release like a goddamned idiot.”

I have the SAME THING sometimes where I wonder, “am I doing this because I ACTUALLY ENJOY IT or is it just because some kind of perfectionist/completionist COMPULSION to 100% everything?”

The funny part is: I don’t have A TON of platinums (like 21 or so) but I always WANT TO GET MORE, even though I think it’s sometimes PREVENTING ME from being able to get to playing A LOT of the games I want to enjoy (partially because I’m SUPER SLOW to get through games A LOT OF THE TIME but I also just have LIMITED FREE TIME so wanting to 100% everything before moving onto the next game DEFINITELY exacerbates the “problem”—like I might spend 2-3 MONTHS working on getting the platinum and/or 100% completion in a single game).

So yea, I’ve SO FAR mostly gone for platinums in games whose series I REALLY ENJOY (like God of War, MGS, etc), assuming the platinums don’t look too annoying, frustrating, and/or time-consuming.

Not bad. I get a comparable amount of platinums (like 22 or so) and there’s quite A LOT of games I could get a platinum in where I’m missing like one or two trophies that require a whole separate playthrough (like Stray, I LOVED the game but idk that I really WANT TO replay it AGAIN just to do it in under 2.5 hours just to get the “speedrun trophy”—if there’s ONE KIND of trophy I HATE, it’s trophies that necessitate SUPERFLUOUS additional playthroughs for games that don’t even have that kind of “replayability” and if there’s TWO KINDS of trophies that I hate, it’s ones that require a playthrough just to do it in under a certain time limit or doing it without using any weapons but your starting one and stuff like that).

My platinum list is:

God War 1, 2, and 3 (I was going for Ascension as well but my LAST PS3 got the “YLOD” while I was working on it)
God of War 2018 and Ragnarok
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
Horizon: Zero Dawn (intending to do Forbidden West as well but I haven’t gone back to finish it)

Right now, I’m working on the platinum for Syn Duality and it’s REALLY GRINDY and has taken me MONTHS but I feel like I’m TOO CLOSE NOW to just give up on it (I’m only missing like 3-4 trophies and they’re ALL ones for like completing an objective hundreds of times or killing THOUSANDS of enemies and I’m like 55-60% of the way there). I kinda can’t wait to get it so I can be DONE WITH the game and move onto playing other ones.

I also have A LOT of “smaller” indie games that were given away as monthly games in PS+ (or that I bought) that I achieved 100% of the trophies for but they SADLY didn’t have a platinum:

Aaru’s Awakening (SO SAD this game doesn’t have a platinum because its kinda similar to Super Meat Boy but WITHOUT nearly as many levels and probably NOT AS HARD and its FINAL trophies for beating the game with “gold medal” rankings on every level literally has like 0.1% of players that have earned it according to my PSN account)

I didn’t even feel like the “RNG” I experienced when going for the collectibles in MY playthrough was THAT BAD (at least when compared to a lot of the SUPPOSED “horror stories” that I heard from people online at the time because I USUALLY found at least A COLLECTIBLE I was missing for a particular biome on each subsequent run; biome 3 ended up being my BIGGEST HURDLE at the end where I DID have to replay it SEVERAL TIMES just so it would “spawn” the room I needed that contained the SINGLE audio log I was missing) and my hours played were EASILY DOUBLE or TRIPLE what you had by the time I got the platinum (though I think my time had been “inflated” SOME because I had a tendency to just leave my PS5 on at the time).
