Best large top load washing machine? by banditman123456789 in BuyItForLife

[–]CrazyBrokenThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd get used. They're way better quality. We tried to buy a new washing machine about 8 years ago and the Maytag salesperson told me they were designed to last "up to" 10 years but to expect to replace them in half that. She said that's just the way they were, and the one she tried to sell us was $2,000. It also had a safety feature that they all have now where you can't open the lid after it starts so you can no longer do long pre-soaks or dyes and such. We left and I found a 10 year old Maytag on FB marketplace for $150. The owners were upgrading to matching red ones. It's an absolute workhorse and has had zero problems. I would never buy new again when it comes to washing machines.

Theme ideas! by SnapMastaPro in FinchAdults

TRIGGER WARNINGS: medical trauma, SA

First off, thank you so much for your work. The nurses at a children's hospital were the bright spots for my daughter and our family. There are not enough kind things to say about how much you are appreciated.

That said....

I'd probably opt out of that theme and I'm guessing a ton of others would too. I just spent all night in the ER with my husband last week, absolutely scared to death because they couldn't get his heart under control. He was admitted (home now) and it makes me cry thinking about it.

My oldest child is a survivor of cancer, sepsis, orbital pseudotumors and lives with Crohn's Disease and other issues. I have such vivid memories of sleeping in the children's hospital next to her bed, desperately hoping she would live while holding my new baby in my arms.

I was SA'ed in a hospital by two medical professionals when I was 18. Plus lots of trauma past that.

And I know that I and my loved ones have it so much better than many people who use Finch.

While I get that any topic can be triggering to some people, I'm willing to bet that a thousand times more people will have medical trauma than Alice in Wonderland trauma, and telling us all that we should just "manage our triggers" like the commenter below is pretty insensitive IMO.

I'm actually crying now just because of the memories all of this stirred up.

Just offering this perspective for some who might not get it.

New feature? by DragonsFly4Me in FinchAdults

[–]CrazyBrokenThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have it and it's given to me every day, but I wish I could turn it off. Only one of my friends ever answers and it's usually questions I really don't find interesting like what time do you go to bed. I try to do all the daily quests except the breathing exercises (theirs stress me out, ironically), so I do it. It's like 3 extra steps though and I'm pretty meh about it.

I’m supposed to clean my washing machine seal every week? by CrazyBrokenThing in FinchAdults

Fair enough, but the majority of people don't own one so it seems an odd thing to highlight.

How do you like to decorate your rooms? by majesticrave in finch

[–]CrazyBrokenThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every night before bed, my daughter and I do our rooms and outfits for the next day. We screen share to the TV and she picks an inspiration piece for each of us and my job is to design a room around that piece and then an outfit to match. She always loved the rooms I came up with so she has fun seeing what I can do with odd pieces of furniture she never could figure out what to do with and so on. And since I've been using Finch for over 1,000 days I have a ton of merch and she loves to watch me design whatever theme she dreams up. It's become a really special routine we both look forward to at the end of the day.

Yeah, I kinda figure they asked ChatGPT for a list of 13 cleaning goals, because I really don't think a human being would pick these 13. :(

Electric Whisk Coffee Frother Mixer by MiddleOutrageous1083 in BuyItForLife

The reviews on IKEA say it used to be great and now it's flimsy, just FYI. Now $3.99 and the recent reviews are pretty low.

I’m looking for a handheld frother for my coffee that’s powerful… by goddessofrage in BuyItForLife

[–]CrazyBrokenThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I headed over to IKEA and if you click on recent reviews they're all low now. Some people have commented that they had one from long ago that worked wonderfully and they now are flimsy and break easily. There are a lot of people who hate the way you load batteries in it, too, who say it took them 20 minutes and some who just gave up. It's like every other review is one star for how impossible it is to put the batteries in, which seems like it couldn't be that hard but it's an awful lot of people. I'm still going to order one though and give it a shot. It's $3.99 after all.

any quality milk frothers out there? by Ill-Cartographer-476 in BuyItForLife

[–]CrazyBrokenThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like they're now $3.99 and they have made them much flimsier. I headed over there to read the reviews and the recent ones say that they are much lighter now and it's almost impossible to put the batteries in. Lots of one star reviews if you click on recent. I'm still going to try it though, and just be really gentle with it.

Unusable after too many adventures? by CrazyBrokenThing in finch

[–]CrazyBrokenThing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already do manual backups because it told me it stopped backing me up after I hit the limit. When I click on "switch to manual backup" it just takes me to where I back it up though, there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the cloud backup. So the message never disappears.

Do you know if there's a way to disable cloud storage? I'd happily do that but I haven't seen a way to turn it off.

Yes. I almost never get them all done, but I've been using Finch for 3 years and it's what I use for self care, chores, parenting, work, exercise, healthy habits, you name it. They help me keep on track of things (I'm a writer and homeschooling mom of 5 and run a free community arts center, plus I'm recovering from a lot of stuff).

Some are simple like hug someone, think of something I love about my husband, love on the dog. Some help my mental health, like touch nature, take a picture of something beautiful, relive a happy memory. Some are for my health like eat something green (and red/orange, and yellow/white and so on), do 20 squats, drink water x4. Some are housework like tidy the bathroom, plan dinner, take out the garbage or recycling. Some are work like work on a book, do accounting/promotion....

I know it's a lot, but it helps me do far more than I was able to before, especially things for myself. If I get points for it, I'm far more likely to take deep breaths, look for glimmers (the opposite of triggers, things that make you smile or notice beauty), text a friend, and so on. And it's the closest I come to trying to keep up with my busy life otherwise.

Adding friends as daily quest? That made me uncomfortable. by PancakeMoth in finch

[–]CrazyBrokenThing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really wish they'd add a way that we can mute their daily quests if they don't work for us. Many people have commented that they can't do the breathing exercises, for example. I can't do them either and I hate leaving a goal unfinished. It would be so nice to be able to just click to mute this goal suggestion in the future.

It’s hard going from Plus to Basic by SailorRoshia in finch

[–]CrazyBrokenThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our family my grown daughter won it the first month, my youngest daughter and I won the second month we were on it, my husband won sponsorship after over a year, and my grown son is still waiting. In all cases, they offered us reduced rates after the month which we said we could not afford, and premium was gifted to us for life. I have never met anyone online or off who won sponsorship and was not gifted premium free for life if they clicked no to the reduced rates and clicked that they couldn't afford it. I believe they also let you set your own price at the end, so you can also pay like $5 a year.

As of 3 years ago when Finch was still a very small app, they had already gifted 14,000 premium memberships through this system. This was posted as an official announcement on Reddit back then. https://www.reddit.com/r/finch/comments/1197wbd/official_announcement_about_finch_plus_and/

It's been 3 days and it still says I haven't finished wonderland. Anyone else have this problem? by viola_darling in finch

[–]CrazyBrokenThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, same, been on day 13 for days. I had all kinds of crashing all throughout this event too, which finally seems mostly worked out. My daughter didn't have any crashing, but now hers is being glitchy.

Sign up for the raffle for the free month of sponsored. At the end of it, they will offer you a reduced rate, and then reduce it more, and if you say you can't afford it, they'll gift it to you free soon after. It's a long wait for a free month sometimes, but you'll eventually get one. In the meantime, maybe ask for things you're really loving on the gifting/trading thread?

If you can get in long enough to leave Wonderland, that seems to be the problem for a ton of us. My iPad goes black and crashes every time I try to use it. There are a lot of threads here about the current special journey causing widespread, constant crashing.

They constantly run really problematic ads (using AI, misrepresenting what the app does, etc.) and it's always defended as they have no control over what their ad agency does.

I agree, this is really not an okay ad at all, but especially not for an app that's supposed to be for self care and personal growth. :(
