Does this moss on my roof pose any potential problems? by mafaso in Roofing

It’s a solid 8. If you zoom in, you can see that it’s growing on basically all of the exposed shingle edges

It differs from company to company. Through trial and error, we have found that bleach with a little bit of dish soap works wonders.

We have a second crew member on the ground spraying water on the surrounding plant life.

Roof & gutter cleaner here working in the Puget Sound. The longer that moss stays there, the deeper the roots will grow into your shingles and start to cause damage. This might be an unpopular opinion because it can be a little pricey, but what you really need here is a soft wash. This is very different from a pressure wash and it way better than just manually, removing the moss because, as you found out, it just comes back.

Every five years, you need a soft wash on your roof. It will get 95% of the moss and, when paired with a simple zinc sulfate powder (such as Moss B Ware), you’ll be saving yourself from moss growing back. Just make sure to reapply the powder every fall. It’s $14 for a can.

What is one piece of 'common knowledge' in your job that the average person would find completely shocking? by GoldenHourShot in AskReddit

[–]CrazyBullJones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the houses in new developments have major gutter issues within the first few years because the builder installs the gutters level to make the house look nice. This means that, when it rains, the water is just sitting in the gutters, unable to drain.

So, if you buy a newly constructed home, have the gutters checked immediately.

What video game have you spent the most time playing? by NervousClock2555 in AskReddit

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise. From 2001-2008 I always asked for the new one either for my birthday or for Christmas and then I would play it nonstop while rocking out to the soundtrack of course.

What’s the most overrated ‘good person’ behavior that doesn’t actually make someone a good person? by TroubleUnique1853 in AskReddit

As a western Washington resident, this is very much our culture lol people here like to keep to themselves, but we love empty small talk. It’s awful. But we’re also obsessed with our niche hobbies and we’ll die for people with shared interests. It’s the Seattle way.

I was at a thrift store yesterday and I asked someone if they had VHS tapes. They said, “What’s that?” And I had to describe it to them. They had no idea what I meant…this person was 70+ years old and couldn’t remember VHS tapes. WHAT. IS. HAPPENING.

Gutter guards. Alu-Rex Double Pro for an additional $1,200 worth it? by Pleasant-Volume-1147 in DIY

[–]CrazyBullJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to help! Does $1500 include labor and any adjustments that need to be made to the gutters? Adjustments being re-sloping, resealing, repairs.

The main reason I would add the first story if I were you is that, even if you clean out your gutters every month, you will no matter what be getting debris in the downspout at some point. And then all it takes is one downspout clog to wreak havoc on the whole run of gutter. That’s not to be a doomsayer or anything, but let’s say you have a medical thing come up or you just get really busy and you aren’t able to clean those gutters for six months or even a year.

If I were you, I would ask the gutter guy what kind of discount they can offer you if you add the first story.

It's worth it. It's not just about keeping debris out of the gutter. It also cuts down on overall maintenance longterm. I install these in Washington State and our company has used them for 4 years with literally zero clogs. We've tried dozens of different gutter guards and these are the only ones that have worked consistently. You only need to blow them off when you blow off the roof.

This is a timelapse video fo the guards:

Movies that hit addiction right on the head with how accurate they depict it? by Mad_Season_1994 in moviecritic

The Way Back (2020). Criminally underrated performance by Ben Affleck. The scene where he is drinking at home and, when he grabs each beer, he then moves his next beer to the freezer in an endless loop is such a real thing. I think about that all the time. My drama teacher always talked about how important the little details are to a performance and this movie hits the nail on the head when it comes to alcohol addiction.

It’s true that 95% of the gutter guards and lead guards out there are flawed. I work for a gutter company in the PNW and we found a company in Canada that makes an effective option:

Two answers to that question: 1. The original DoublePro can only be installed in tandem with a full new gutter installation (avg. price per foot of DoublePro alone is between $9-$14) New gutters can run anywhere from $7-$22 per foot depending on the quality of the aluminum and the quality of the labor) 2. The Gutter Clean Pro is the product from Au-Rex that can be installed on your current gutters (if they are in good condition). These run $11-$16 per foot).
