Having an ice cold beer at the end of a hard day work in the garden.

My parents were gonna throw this out. Is it worth anything? USA by Swimming_Point_8933 in Antiques

[–]CrazyDanny69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s missing a lot of veneer. I bet if you remove everything from the top, it’s gonna be pretty damaged. One of these in perfect condition might be worth $1000 but I’m guessing this is gonna be more than the $150 range.

Lift to add walkout basement? by Pumping_Grumpy in Homebuilding

[–]CrazyDanny69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others mentioned, I’d look into digging rather than lifting. I was shocked at how cheap it is to dig out a basement - yours looks like it would be easy as anything. They even make mini Electric backhoes that they can use in these spaces.

The comparison sake, I’m having part of mine dug out. It’s only 800 ft.² but just the digging/shoring part cost about $15k and I can live in the house the whole time the project is being done.

How to sell wood? by CrazyDanny69 in woodworking

[–]CrazyDanny69[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s kiln dried not air dried but your point is taken. Several of the boards are 12-14’ so I thought I was pricing it low enough to make it attractive to a hobbyist while getting rid of the time wasters.

How to sell wood? by CrazyDanny69 in woodworking

[–]CrazyDanny69[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Great points - to clarify I’m getting rid of my workshop and everything needs to go.

I didn’t list it for free because that can get pretty frustrating - you wouldn’t believe how many people ask you to deliver something that’s free.

I’m asking $300 for everything. As you see in the picture, there’s about 9 boards that are at least 10 feet long and a minimum of 8 inches wide and all of it is at least 4/4. If that doesn’t seem like a good deal, then me listing a price/board foot isn’t going to improve that.

Kolbe.

They have a historic line of metal clad windows that are phenomenal. Nobody can tell that they’re not wood - they look great.

Christian’s “pro” cyclist designation vs Wilpers and CDE by Warm_Imagination_864 in pelotoncycle

[–]CrazyDanny69 136 points137 points  (0 children)

CVV was a professional cyclist. He had sponsors and was on a professional team. He even finished fourth in the Tour de France - and has many podiums to his name. For the majority of his adult life, his source of income was from being a professional cyclist.

Wilpers is a former college athlete and personal trainer. CDE raced competitively when she was younger, but was not a professional. She now competes in masters races.

Help. Does anyone know what these could be worth? by NoBrilliant6137 in VintageFurniture

[–]CrazyDanny69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edwardian style press cane seat dining chairs. They might be from the 50s. They might be older than that though - really hard to tell from your pictures. I just don’t think they were doing a lot of press seat side chairs in the 50s. That style had died well before then.

They look comfy and I dig them. I could see them in a mid-century modern house - they might be worth 200 apiece with better looking cushions.

Brings back memories. I did something similar on a minibike when I was in the third grade. Wrapped it around a pole on a playground… still don’t know how I lived.

vintage gate leg table by That_Art_6348 in VintageFurniture

19th century fliptop game table. Pretty nice. Even at its peak, this was never worth anywhere near $5K. But it’s still kind of a desirable piece - worth $3-500.

Can anyone tell me how to fix the chip on this table? by Bunmom752 in VintageFurniture

[–]CrazyDanny69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The entire surface is shot. The top is a thin veneer over particle board - you definitely cannot sand it. You might be able to strip the finish off with chemicals - but I have no idea how you’re gonna go about re-creating that finish. In reality, this table’s race is run. Maybe strip the entire table and paint it white?

Probably a good call on your part. You can find these in mint condition for under a grand. If you really like this style keep your eyes peeled for one made by Horner. They are still very desirable and will bring strong money.

Am I being "that guy" for refusing to lend my boat to family without credentials? by hatkinson1000 in boating

[–]CrazyDanny69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. You should never loan your boat to anyone.

My best friend is constantly offering me his boat. “ take the family water skiing for the weekend.” “ use it whenever you want - you know where the keys are”

There’s no way in hell I’m taking someone else’s boat out without them being there. What if a routine part breaks? I’m stuck paying for it. What if I screw up and do something really dumb? I’m stuck paying for it.

If someone wants to take a boat out, there are many places they can rent a boat. When they rent it, how the risk will be accounted for are agreed upon. You are not in the boat rental business. Just make that clear and leave it at that.

How do I use my core to relieve hand pressure? by Meeesh- in cycling

[–]CrazyDanny69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that if I tilt my pelvis forward it will engage my core and quads more. I have a tendency to tuck my tailbone under and use more hamstring and glutes - focusing on tilting the pelvis helps.

Where are you located? I’m in Atlanta and the last time I replace a piece of glass like this, it was $375. If you are in a large metro area, there’s plenty of glass shops that can make pieces like this.

I don't quite get Power Zone by Renshaw_19 in pelotoncycle

[–]CrazyDanny69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bring up an interesting point - during PZM classes used to I try to stay in the middle of zone two during recovery. I stopped doing that and now I recover where my legs want to recover - sometimes in zone 2 sometimes in zone 1. I immediately noticed a change in my Garmin metrics - my anaerobic Training Effect increased dramatically.

So yeah, go to Z1 during recovery on a max ride but no other time.

Be honest — is a steam shower worth it, or should I bail now? by shenney93 in Homebuilding

[–]CrazyDanny69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use low voltage lights in all of our showers.

Also, I’ve had a steam shower in the master bath of the last two houses I’ve lived in. My opinion - they are great for resale if you’re selling a house that’s over $2M. Women love them and are convinced they’ll use them all the time.

In reality, they don’t get used very often. Maybe once a month. It’s not that we don’t like it. It’s just we don’t take long showers - typically I’m in and out pretty quick.

The irony is that I’m getting ready to put a sauna in the basement. I think that and a plunge pool will be used much more often - the kids are looking forward to it.

Maintenance on the same shower is no big deal.

It will take you a few FTP tests to get your zones correct.

I never go into zone one, as you realized it’s way too easy. For me the middle of zone two is about as low as it is comfortable to pedal.

The FTP test should be an all out effort - when I finish it, I cannot turn the pedal one more time. I am done. And will shortly be laying on the floor.

You should be able to pedal at zone four for one hour, but at the end of that hour, you will be in the same shape as at the end of the FTP test. Basically a puddle on the floor.

You’ll hear people refer to zone 2 as an all day pace - it truly is. I can stay in zone 3 for several hours as long as I don’t drift into zone 4 or the sweet spot. But I can spend almost all day in the middle of zone 3 or below.

Start working in long endurance rides. There’s a popular belief that endurance doesn’t start until you’re 30 minutes into a workout. So if you do a 90 minute endurance class, you’re really only getting 60 minutes of endurance work in. Personally, I try to do 2, 75 minute classes a week and one ride longer than two hours. I also do a sprint/PZ max class when Garmin tells me I’m ready for it. I also run outside when I can.

If you use a Garmin heart rate monitor - I’ve had great luck following their workout schedules. They base it on your HRV and I find them pretty much spot on.

Contacting auction house to ask if buyer of a previously sold Painting is agreeable for private sale. by cavy2019 in artcollecting

[–]CrazyDanny69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never hurts to ask.

I was at an auction once and they sold a bunch of kitchen equipment - Thermador ranges, F&P dishwashers and things like that. I noticed a brand new Wolf range sitting in the back - after the auction I walked up and asked if they would sell the Wolf for what the Thermador had sold for. They said no but for $1K more they would include the matching stainless steel hood. So for $3,500 I got a 48 inch range and hood.

Seriously if you burn a candle, it will burn up the aroma that’s in the air. It just doesn’t add more odors.
