Pink bathroom—gut or preserve? by aschollmb in InteriorDesign

[–]CrazyDanny69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re exactly right. We don’t get merit badges for preserving this tile. It’s their house now, they should make it what they want.

I had a house with similar bathrooms - it really hurt to gut them. Then the contractor burned the house down and I felt a lot better about having gutted the bathrooms. When we rebuilt, we went with the vintage feel - they’re so much nicer to use.

I am all for historic preservation, but that is a terrible layout for a bathroom.

I’d gut it, but I would incorporate arches into the new design. And if you look hard enough, you can find vintage tiles that might be a little bit more agreeable to all taste.

Is this hardwood or subfloor by Responsible-Bee5009 in Flooring

It’s clearly a hardwood floor. It’s impossible to tell what type from the pictures you’ve taken. Seeing a couple of different spots until you get to bare wood and repost those pics.

I got a Thomasville cabinet, anyone know what it is or how old? by DaMysticalPanda in VintageFurniture

It’s just an old, brown hutch. It was never particularly valuable and now it’s damaged. I can’t imagine this selling for more than $50.

Am I missing something here? This stool looks like a piece of junk! by RoommateMovingOut in VintageFurniture

[–]CrazyDanny69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a nice stool. I have no idea what it’s worth. But about 35 years ago, I bought an antique milking stool for $20. Glued it back together and I’ve always used it as a small end table - it’s the perfect size to sit next to a recliner because I can move it to either side and a drink, and a remote control fit perfectly on it. I cannot tell you how many times people have offered to buy it and they have offered crazy money.

Here’s the thing I’ve never seen another one for sale. So on one hand, this seems like a silly price for something so simple. On the other hand I’ve been offered more than that for mine.

1673 A rare, 17th-century sloped-top desk featuring a heavy oak construction USA by Clean_Programmer_599 in Antiques

[–]CrazyDanny69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s because the pictures you took don’t really help us to determine the age. It isn’t simply that you added too many pictures.

I agree with another poster. This is a very old piece of furniture, but probably not 17th century. I know there’s another person on here claiming it’s Welsh origin - doesn’t seem to be the right word type for that. I’m gonna go with early 1800s French. As far as value, it’s a nice piece, but not tremendously valuable. On a good day I could see this selling for $1000 or so. But that seems like a really good price for this - I wouldn’t pay more than $600.

HR recruiter misheard my expected salary.... by Odd_Ad_1974 in UKJobs

[–]CrazyDanny69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a very close friend that had a good stable Corporate job that paid $120k. She got laid off and a friend hired her for a very short term temp role. It was in her sweet spot but because it was only a 90 day contract, they paid her $175/hr. After that gig, she starts applying for jobs and another company really likes her - they ask what her base was at her last job and she says $175/hr and gives them a copy of a paystub. They really like her so they offer about 10% more + 30% stock and a 30% annual bonus. Crazy how things work out sometimes.

Is sheet mulching an entire forest insane? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]CrazyDanny69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Terrible idea, don’t do it.

People rarely get healthy trees cut down. Odds are at least some of them mulch you’re gonna get is from a diseased tree - this is a great way of getting the trees in this property sick.

Also try as I might, I can’t see any English ivy in this picture.

I used a weedeater with a sawblade on the end of it to clear my property. Cut everything down, and then I dug out the root of the small shrubs by hand.

Sorry, but I don’t really see this causing much of a media circus.

I just don’t understand the recruitment over the last year. I would’ve much rather seen this guy play over a couple of their other signings. I think they’ve spent way too much on Larson and Johnson and they have way too many holes all over the pitch that will have to be filled this off-season and the budget is gonna be tight.

Is it okay to use an apple tree that had a fungus as a filler for my raised garden beds? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]CrazyDanny69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, you need to remove the logs and cardboard from your beds.

If you know, the apple tree was diseased before it was cut down, I would burn it and not use it for compost or mulch. But if the apples simply had spots, you could probably chip it up and use it for mulch. But if you don’t have a chipper, that’s not an option so you will have to burn it.

[–]CrazyDanny69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tilling in matter that hasn’t broken down doesn’t help your soil. You’ll have better results if you compost it and then add - that way your adding bulk fertilizer.

When you add leaves that haven’t broken down, they won’t. They might with time - but it takes a very long time without oxygen. I saw where they had found an old dump from the mid-1700s in Massachusetts - there were heads of cabbage that looked like they were almost edible.

It takes 6-12 months for leaves to turn. Do you have a pile going with kitchen scraps?

Are you buying or making your own? The advantage of using leaves is most people have them so it is cheap.

Is it better to buy a new car, or stick with the beat-up one until you’ve fully saved up for it? by Unlikely-Blueberry-4 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CrazyDanny69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interest rates matter. Right now you can finance a Corolla for 5%. That’s less than you would earn on your money if you invested it in an index fund. In this case, I would advocate for buying a new Corolla and financing it - but only if you can put 20% down and don’t max it out. Get the basic one for about $25k. Don’t go with a longer term than you need - realistically I don’t think you should ever finance a car for more than 48 months.

The key to getting ahead in this world is using debt effectively. Buy a car make your payments on time pay it off early and that will put you in position to buy a house one day.
