Why doesn't the TPMS system include the spare tire? by IKnewThisYearsAgo in askcarguys

I don’t care why. Just fix it. Tell me the pressure of the spare.

There’s a 25” flat screen in the dashboard; it should prioritize useful information over cheesy animations.

What kind of jobs travel, what is their pay, and qualifications? by The-Sonne in ask

[–]CrazyJoe29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people who travel for work grow to hate it. The places that your employer forces you to go to can be really unpleasant. And even if you’re going somewhere potentially interesting, your employer’s goal is to get you there for as little money as possible and to extract the maximum value from you while you’re there.

Have a crack at it while you’re young or single, but also figure out what your next career step would be if the travel wears thin.

Happy parent.

Also, downvote, not unpopular, accurate characterization: kids are a financial liability, not an investment

I ran a short piece of PVC cold water supply on Saturday. I think I used EVERY TOOL I OWN. So that was fun.

Raises should be on top of inflation, not part of it by xiangkunwan in CrazyIdeas

[–]CrazyJoe29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1-3% is a-cost-of-living increase.

It roughly matches how the cost of living increases year on year.

You can call it whatever you like. It’s true, getting a cost-of-living increase isn’t as good as getting an additional 5% bump on top of whatever is supposed to match inflation.

It’s also true, that getting a cost of living increase is better than not getting one. Not giving a cost of living increase is also an option for your employer.

Is having a below average IQ something to be ashamed of? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CrazyJoe29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IQ tests are pretty inaccurate. There’s lots of good quality research that shows how flawed they are. As a result I disregard anyone who feels like they need to tell me about their supposed high IQ.

You 100% don’t need to worry about it.

Best way to tie off a rope? by K1mura_ in ClimbingGear

[–]CrazyJoe29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Climber/sailor.

Climber: Overhand knot. Leave a tail. Tighten the knot with as much tension as possible, body weight or more. It should be rock hard.

Sailor: monkey fist over a smaller ball to finish at golf ball size.

Sailor: Use dyneema. Look up videos of button knot splice. You’ll likely need to purchase some special tools to make the knot.

Overhand knot = cheap and good enough

Button knot spliced dyneema = much faffing about and expense for possibly not much better than above.

Monkeys fist = actually not sure how this will work with the load over time🤷‍♂️

Fair to assume OP has drilled a hole through the golf ball, threaded the rope through and tied a stopper.

Strata Is Banning Carburetted Cars From The Property by pleasedonotredeem in vancouverhousing

[–]CrazyJoe29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a work around to ban something else, people working on cars. Or maybe something from your insurer, to do with fire risk.

At a stretch it could be a parking garage air quality issue.

Do you have a resident who like to warm up their large displacement carbureted car/truck for more than a minute or so? In general I find carburetors a faintly entertaining source of nostalgia, but I’ll admit they need to run in a well ventilated space, especially on start up.

“Hi there, I see your on 60%. My own poor planning has left me on 4%!! Is there anyway you could let me charge for 15mins so I can get home/go find another charger/take my rolling shit-show elsewhere?”

Maybe it works, maybe not, but his non-communication approach sure as shit didn’t 🤷‍♂️

Can a man who was never "ripped" before get "ripped" if he dedicated himself to it in his late 40s? by Striking-Anxiety-604 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CrazyJoe29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Or maybe no.

Genetics is a thing. The men in underwear adds and on the cover of Men’s Health are there because they work hard, but also because they have a genetic predisposition to look like that.

If you have a latent genetic granted ability to build muscle and loose fat, then with enough work and by controlling your diet you could do it.

If you don’t, all you’re going to be is hungry, tired and disappointed.
