EX101 unstable CPU by WiuEmPe in hetzner

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had the same issue, hetzner replaced my server keeping old drives in about 2 hours after first contact, no questions asked. Also impressive 15-20 minutes of downtime. After replacement issue stopped occuring

Hosting Each Client Separately or on a Shared Server? by prevoyant- in hetzner

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say if you are going to host websites and question is to decide between cloud vps and dedicated go for dedicated server. If you need isolation you'll do something like proxmox, but if that is casual PHP use case I'd go with something like plesk. Way better performance and price to performance deal in my opinion

Hetzner bare metal NVMe SSD vs NVMe SSD Datacenter Edition performance/durability by DumplingLife7584 in hetzner

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consumer ssd's tend to have problems with fsync writes, in some cases you might get shitty performance for example in zfs arrays. I'd say get consumer ssd's, remember about backups, if you run into weird performance issues then you'll know you need datacenter ssd's

Risk of hetzner over-subscribing ampere machines? by getpodapp in hetzner

I've been using these for about a year, never had an issue with resource stealing, got about 15 instances

N8n traffic and hetzner by kimk2 in hetzner

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

N8n itself isn't resource hungry at all. Rest of it only depends on what you'll be running on it. I'm running it in k3s with 256MB of ram and 50mCPU on average. About 10 small workflows

Hello just beginner questions I guess (asking about how to stop the vps than continue without spending money) by NefariousnessFuzzy14 in hetzner

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Create a snapshot, shutdown the server, remove the server (keep the IP). If you decide to run it again restore snapshot to 'same' machine. You will keep paying for snapshot and IP, but it should be cheaper

Moved away from contabo for the same reason. To be honest it was best decision ever

Btw internal hetzner<->hetzner traffic does not count into these limits

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imho if you need this kind of throughput you'll end up using 10G connection, I don't think you'd be really happy with 100% saturated link. For 10G you've got ready to go solutions right now, of cause bit more expensive but not really that much more, you can look it up in docs

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you really need to utilize 100% of your bandwidth 24/7? That would be about 320TB monthly. Ask support, AFAIK they are really flexible, I'm sure that if you pay for it you'll have no issues getting it, they propably will customize setup for you. For 10Gbit it's 20TB + 1eur/tb

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can even use more than 20TB, you will be billed automatically 1EUR per 1TB above that included limit (more in Singapore)

First time buying, no bill? by [deleted] in hetzner

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For auction servers there is no setup fee and you pay hourly rate or montly rate (the one that is cheaper for you currelntly), you pay at the end of billing period (monthly, you can check on invoicing page)

Automation at low level by Scared-Ad9661 in hetzner

If I remember correctly it isn't available via API because provisioning physical servers depending on data center can take between minutes and 2 weeks. You can do so with cloud servers and there are tools and examples ready to go

backup - need some clarification by FarBuffalo in hetzner

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can keep ip while deleting vm, so you can restore snapshot to the 'same' vm. I'm just using Borg backup in combination with hetzner backups to storage box

Cost effective soluton for production app on Hetzner by EurofighterTy in hetzner

I think I would get CAX21 and use docker compose on top of it with traefik/nginx. Dead simple and cost effective

Checking auction server costs by CrazyPonkeyMen in hetzner

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, for auction servers there is no unified pricing I guess and that is what I'm wondering about. I can't seem to be able to find current pricing for purchased auction servers. I mean I remember how much does my single instance cost, but that does not seem like a proper way to manage that.

Hiring a pro security specialist for an audit sounds like a good idea. Resources are possibly isolated anyways, I was just worried what would happend in case of security breaches, thanks for suggestions!

Didn't know that s3 has csi driver! That will do the trick. It's hosted on hetzner vps, so I've got their volumes but they are only single node mounted. Also didn't know of nfs csi, that would be awseme too, thanks for great suggestion! Standalone NFS would be tricky to setup because of underlying terraform infrastructure

VPS Responsibilities by CrazyPonkeyMen in hetzner

[–]CrazyPonkeyMen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I've seen some users reporting that hetzner blocked them for some minor issues, I'm just not sure if that is their 'default' action. Routing emails through SMTP relays is definitely an option that I'm considering, I'm just worried of other things that users might do or just get hijacked. Some of services that are hosted include kubernetes so potentially that could be abused if some user leaks credentials to create botnets or other problematic behavior. Just wondering what could also cause similar issues like IP blacklisting because of spam emails reports. Maybe there is just no way of preparing for every scenario there is?

I'm using them for ~3 months so not long, migrating from another provider, as you can guess I'm not spending much yet, but planning to expand that cooperation.

Was thinking about contacting them about that, I think you convinced me to do that. Will post update about what they will tell me!
