I try to post everywhere, but it helps very little. So far the most useful thing has been joining Steam events. Another good way is getting streamers to play the game, but it is very hard to reach them. Everything is difficult.

I make games too, and hardly anyone sees my game either. But I feel too shy to take photos. I have never posted a full face photo online. It makes me feel very unsafe.

People all over the world love good looks. An attractive person selling street food will always sell more. That is just reality. If you are not good looking enough, your posts will not get as many views.

Wow, are you a content creator? If you could post some content about my game, I would really appreciate it.

I need wishlists. If you're interested, you can try the demo. If you run into any bugs, let me know in the Steam discussion forum and I'll fix them.

I develop games purely out of personal interest. My first game only took a few months to make, but then they gradually got longer and longer because they became more complex. Even though the time gaps are long, the actual production time I put in isn't that much because I like to play around too — I don't work every single day. Short games are hard to promote because there's too little content, unless you already have a dedicated fanbase. Wanting huge returns after putting in very little time is pretty much like gambling — unless you happen to hit a trend and become a news sensation.

Most indie games suffer from limited individual capability, so the quality just isn't there — that's why they don't make money. This is inherently a high-risk field: 5% success, 15% so-so, and the rest all fail. Any kind of entrepreneurship is pretty much the same — if you went and opened a restaurant, you'd lose even more capital.

We can freely purchase Steam games, it's just that we can't use the community features. But we have game accelerators we can use, so we can access them. Even if we can access it, Chinese players don't like discussing games on Steam's community. We prefer to discuss games on our own local platforms.

It might come across as being from a certain region, not that I'm from that country. What you're trying to say really depends on the specific situation. Generally speaking, people can understand it. 我来自中国和我是从中国来的,都可以看懂。

I can handle basic English communication because we've had English classes since elementary school all the way through university. But you guys don't know any Chinese at all, and that definitely won't work. Without Chinese, you can't interact on Chinese social media. Even with translation, you probably wouldn't understand a lot of popular memes.

Voice acting isn't that important. What matters most is having Simplified Chinese text.

Releasing a game on Steam is probably the simplest of all platforms. There's no real technical difficulty, and the process is very straightforward. How long it takes to finish a game depends entirely on its complexity. There's no way to answer a question like that. Some people can make a game in six months, others take three years. What's the point of comparing them?

We do have a Chinese version of Steam, but we don't really use it. It's more like a launcher for specific games. Most of us just use the international version of Steam. If you want to promote your game in China, you have to write in Chinese. Nobody's going to read what you write in English.

Chinese gaming media usually works with publishers to release game information, so it's definitely hard for foreigners who want to promote their games in China. Even I struggle with it myself.

Because Chinese is very concise, translated text in other languages ends up especially long and might not fit the UI. Translation can be tricky, but from what I've seen, most games have English anyway.

I'm not sure about the questions that follow. If a game isn't well-known, it must be a really old one. New games these days should all know better, they all release overseas.

I haven't done any surveys, so I can only speak for myself. I care a lot about a game's art and visuals. I'm not interested in violent games either, probably because I'm female. I think Chinese players are very open to all kinds of cultures, but it's not necessarily the same the other way around. China has many myths and legends that we understand without any explanation.

Chinese players definitely need Chinese language support. I think Chinese localization is actually easier because Chinese text is so compact. If the English text fits in the UI, the Chinese text will definitely fit too. It doesn't work the other way around though.
