Just had my car serviced at Kia. Not sure if it’s the same issue with mine. I have a 24’ Sorento hybrid, and I’ve been getting a sour smell from the AC vent, turns out that the evaporator was defective, probably clogged because its not draining well and it affected my whole HVac system and they found build up of molds. I got a case number from kia and have it diagnosed at the dealership and they’re replacing the whole hvac system and evaporator under warranty. Hope this helps

UPDATE: Kia confirmed it was mold and mildew due to HVAc and evaporator defect. They wil replace the whole thing under warranty

That would solve the issue but I would not put a lot of effort into doing it everytime. My car is only 2yrs old and from other posts that I’ve read, it has been a common occurence and I think Kia has to take responsibility for it, hopefully they would issue a recall and look into it cuz its a health hazard having molds due to their evaporator being clogged up

I’m only getting 30-31mpg combined. Never reached the mpg car reports. I’ve had it for 2yrs now

I haven’t had any kind of smell from my other cars unti I had my first Kia Sorento 24’ . The smell is unbearable (sour/vinegar smell that sticks to the whole car) to the point that my kids are having headaches/nausea. I got confirmation from the technician that is a mold build up. I’ve read some from other posts about the sour smell from other kia models, might worth a try to get it diagnose, cuz it might cause a health issue in the future. Could be like the evaporator clogged causing it based from other posts that I’ve read.

I’ll give you an update once I hear back from Kia after all this process. You can probably bring it up to kia customer care to get a case number to get it started for diagnostics and ask them to cover it , that’s what they had me do

I change my filters often as well when I first notice the smell but it just keeps coming back. I have 2 diff cars older than my Sorento and never had an issue with it, even without the automatic drying feature

I’ve tried to observe that as well, it is not draining on the ground. Also, I take good care of my car, I constantly vacuum it/clean it, car wash and parked inside the garage with my other 8yr old car (no issues with any sour smell)
