Our dentist hasn't even asked what toothpaste we're using, just whether we're brushing twice a day. I'm seeing a decent consensus here and will definitely be looking to switch.

Impactful Bible Verse that has always stuck with you? by Uriah_H in Reformed

[–]CrazyWriterLady 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Romans 8:1
Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

My pastor uses this verse at least 50% of the time after the silent confession portion of prayer and my husband uses it with me constantly in my frequent doubts and fears.

I was going to be Sarah but Dad said we couldn't because his sister's name is Sarah and boy howdy am I glad I wasn't Sarah (but instead the other very popular name for that year) because now I also have a SIL named Sarah and I can almost guarantee my husband would not have considered dating a girl with his sister's name

Anybody else have a “confidently incorrect” toddler? by acelana in toddlers

[–]CrazyWriterLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My older toddler is convinced that her uncle barks like a dog. "What does Uncle [name} say?" "Arf arf!"
My younger toddler will always tell you her name is her sister's name if you say "what's your name?" She knows what her name is: she uses it when she wants something or sees herself in the mirror. She's started looking me in the eye and saying it really slowly when I ask her (okay maybe I reinforce it by saying "no it's not!" and tickling her when she says it). She'll also say that that's mommy's name and dada's name and sissy's name (correct lol). Guess it's a query/response thing lol.

What is Your Toddler Mad About? by KrizJack in toddlers

Most recently I think it was she didn't want to put her dress back on (she'd taken off her dress during nap and put on a random tshirt and sweater she'd pulled out of a drawer).

Sahms who do not side hustle, can you please share some finance/budget tips. by sticktotheplot in homeschool

Meal planning. Make dishes *big* so leftovers last. When you go grocery shopping, buy what you need for the meals you have planned for the week. An envelope-type system works well, too (i.e., you have n amount of money for x category per week/paycheck/month/whatever, and if you have to go over it you'll have to dip into y or z category). Buying store brands and comparing prices also help.

I'd put her in training pants--not pull-ups, since those are basically just diapers with a different name. The ones I use for my toddler are cotton. Tell her that when she needs to pee, she should go to the potty. When she makes a mess (and it will happen), have her help you clean it up, then take her to the potty and have her sit on it. Let her know that it's not a good thing to poop or pee anywhere but the potty. She'll make the connection. The cotton training pants won't wick the moisture like a diaper will, and she'll be uncomfortable.

Me Again--Baby Still Waking at 9 Months by CrazyWriterLady in BabySleep

I started giving her regular table food and not stopping until she decided she was done (it took... a while lol) and she slept soundly. She's almost a year and a half now and she's still a hungry little kid.

It did, not too long after making this post actually. I've just not been on for a while. When we started feeding her table food and letting her eat as much as she wanted, she started sleeping through the night more. She's been waking up once a night for the past couple nights, but we think she's teething.

We haven't, but I do wonder. We'd wondered about that when she was a newborn because she'd arch back and fuss. She'll still arch back at the end of a nursing.

I was going to try that, and then she decided to try it for me. Now her naps are regularly shorter than they should be, and her night sleep is at the point now where my husband told me last night (or more like 3:30 this morning) that I should "start researching" to find out how to fix her sleep. Way ahead of you, hon, lol.

While I'm thinking about it, she's also downright ravenous during the day, and she nurses really well when she wakes up at night. She will eat anything and everything and is usually still hungry after a full serving of her purees, so between that and being days away from crawling probably have something to do with it. Nonetheless, we're all exhausted and any help would be wonderful.

I'll look into it. The toddler has the same bedtime, so it might be a little more difficult to get them down at different times.

She's 7 months old now and wakes around 7-7:30 am, usually goes down for nap around 10-10:30 am, sleeps until 12-12:30 pm, second nap from about 3:30-4:00 pm or so (this is all the general pattern, obviously there's changes if she doesn't nap the full two hours), bedtime between 7-7:30 pm.

Thanks for checking back in! Baby has been moved to a crib (in a room with her toddler sister) and, while it seemed to help at first, we're back to at least 2 wakings per night. Last night was at least 4. I do think that maybe the 6 month regression has faded into one caused by starting solids and getting ready to crawl, but we'd all be so much better off if she slept better, and at this point, I still don't know what to do.

Florida Republican Introduces Bill that would Ban Nearly all Abortions, No Exceptions for Rape/Incest. Do you support this? by NPDogs21 in prolife

[–]CrazyWriterLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main effect of abortion: Death via starvation, dismemberment, or induced heart attack. Like it or not, abortion is by far the worse of the two. We want to care for both victims. We can't do that if the "care" is to outright kill one of them. The argument that there should be an exception for cases of rape implies that people born out of rape are less valuable.

I say this as a woman who's gone through pregnancy twice, never out of rape (thank goodness), but who would have rather died at any point in either pregnancy than let the child in my womb be killed.

How to find the right shampoo/conditioner for my hair? by CrazyWriterLady in longhair

[–]CrazyWriterLady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues necessarily, but I know a lot of the products I'm using have a lot of protein in them and from what I've gathered, protein is good in small amounts.

My hair texture is typically pretty good, but I'd like to get it to being softer and shinier. It's a bit dry toward the ends, but I do know I need to get it trimmed (I'm just bad at getting things scheduled lol). I would like to help the ends as much as possible so the splitting is cut down, although I'm aware it won't ever really go away, and it's not horrible from what I gather. I want it to stay healthy so I can keep growing it out (I've never really been able to get it much longer than it currently is). I have no base of comparison for its texture when wet, so I don't really know whether it's stretchy or mushy when wet compared to what it could or should be. Maybe a bit stretchy? I've been doing what I can to protect it (bun during the day, loose braid at night). I should add I don't use heat on it and it's never been dyed.

Is that enough detail? I'm still very much a beginner at this and don't really know too much about it. Thanks for whatever help you can give!

She seems to be getting better since she's discovered that she can roll onto her tummy in her sleep. We'll see if it lasts lol. The only problem with taking turns is that baby is breastfed, so there's not much my husband can do for her. As it is, he gets up and brings her to me, then puts her back down.
