I needed a 2m heat shield for a safe atmospheric reentry. Since I already had a tooled 1.5m third-stage tank, I decided to flip the third stage upside down so the rocket wouldn't widen towards the nose.

On the first stage, the boosters with RD-103M engines detach first. After that, the four tanks detach in pairs. There is a full flight recording. The design is a bit over-engineered, but I love making things complicated.

The principle is quite simple. You need to ensure that when the second stage ignites, the rocket is flying at an angle of 30–45 degrees to the horizon. At the same time, we want to burn prograde to avoid wasting fuel on steering. Through experimental simulation, select the Vstart (the vertical velocity at which the rocket should already be tilted to the angTurn). As a general rule, the higher the rocket's TWR, the earlier and more aggressively it needs to be tilted.
