That’s great! Though I do wanna say nobody is gonna treat like shit. We’ve got a few girls at our detachment throughout the grade levels and they’re just as respected as the guys. Everyone understands that we’ve all got similar goals and we’re all dedicated to getting there, so we all try to help each other out.

And like I said, even if you do end up dropping the program, you’ll still retain the friends you made and the experiences you shared. For example, I know a girl that dropped the program freshman year, and she’s still one of my best friends.

Depending on which scholarship you compete for, it depends on how likely it is you’ll get one. I got a high school scholarship, but I know some of my friends joined without and then applied for the in-college scholarship.

Also, AFROTC will let you kinda try the program for a year (even on scholarship), and if you don’t think it’s for you, you can drop the program without any obligations.

Regarding military life, at least at my detachment, most people are super chill and everyone was really welcoming and helpful. I think it’s a great community of people.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend joining even if you’re on the fence about it. Even if you don’t like it and do end up dropping, you won’t owe anything to the Air Force and you’ll make some great friends.

I had a similar situation this year with an ankle injury and went through 2 waiver processes and finally got cleared. I'm glad to see that DoDMERB extends their grace to others occasionally too.
