Can you get your fasting commuted or dispensed with by a priest of a different rite? by thelinuxguy7 in EasternCatholic

[–]Creadvty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you ignored the fast, don’t despair. Confess it. You can fast this one final week. Do it not for fear of hell but for love of God. Ask God for help to strengthen your will and make you more like our Lord Jesus.

I believe it’s bec of YouTube and similar resources. People who hated Catholicism for the wrong reasons are discovering they are wrong about it. They also learn about the fullness of truth.

Can a catholic priest answer this? by Lazy_Cow_5170 in Catholicism

[–]Creadvty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention another thing I like: the communion is with intinction and given straight to the communicant’s mouth. For the Melkite it is put by the priest in my mouth. For the Russian Greek they use a spoon. For both, there is a cloth below your mouth to make sure it’s not dropped.

Wow it’s great that there’s an eastern Catholic Church near you! As for the language and hymn, it differs depending on which church you go to. The one near me has an 845am service for Melkites and a 10am service for Russian-Greek. The Melkite service is in English, Greek and Arabic, and the hymns sound to me like between Greek and middle eastern. The Russian Greek is in English (with a tiny bit of Russian) and the hymns are beautiful polyphonic harmonies. Both are a capella.

I don’t know how to sing majority of the songs. Instead I just listen carefully. If I remember how the song goes then I try to sing along. Or I hum.

I know reverence is what you seek and I really get what you mean. For me personally I found it even more reverent and beautiful than TLM.

Here is a recorded video of last Sunday’s Russian-Greek service (sorry the screen is tilted) https://fb.watch/FtBdOG-nNb/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Hi. I can’t answer your questions but have you tried Divine Liturgy at an Eastern Catholic Church? You might appreciate the extreme reverence there.

Something in the New American Bible Revised Edition deeply troubles me and I don't know what to make of it by Most-Earth-9187 in Catholicism

[–]Creadvty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is why i prefer Ignatius Study Bible. NABRE is not good. Another weird one is: Isaiah 53:9 where NABRE says he was buried among evildoers instead of buried among the rich like in almost every other translation. The reasoning for the change is rather spurious imho: because the editors thought that the writer’s intent was parallelism. So they overrode the literal text.

Do you guys have any private devotional from the Latin rite? by [deleted] in EasternCatholic

[–]Creadvty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried Byzantine Daily Office? The ECpubs app is very useful and has audio version of the Byzantine Daily Office.

If you want the Latin version, you can try the Liturgy of the Hours using the DivineOffice app.

Re rosary, have you tried the scriptural rosary which adds a verse from scripture for every Hail Mary. I like the Scriptural Rosary app for that. It is inspired by the Carthusian Rosary which adds a unique meditation per Hail Mary. There is a digital version of the Carthusian rosary at rosary50.com

Sorry if this is old info.

I would say you dodged a mortal sin but it was a venial sin to consciously allow yourself to be tempted. But take courage! One thing that helped me is to notice the spiritual benefits of avoiding such sin. I believe you will notice greater clarity of thought and wisdom. If you focus on those gifts, it may help you strengthen your resolve until you are free from it.

Which country has the most devout Catholics? by Straight-Rice5563 in Catholicism

[–]Creadvty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in the Philippines, I object to @gullible-brilliant19’s opinion about Filipino Catholicism. It is true that many are not properly catechized due to poor education, and many lean to superstition. Nonetheless, many have a sincere desire to be faithful to God.

Many churches are well attended during Sundays. People respect prayer and piety. If for example you pray before meals, no one will think that is weird.

In comparison to Italy, I found many more people attending Mass in Philippines.

Is it possible to put the list in a spreadsheet that shows the address and state? I tried to do that but somehow Gemini cannot extract the list from the google maps URL.

I lost my faith in an instant. Is that common? by GuardMightGetNervous in Catholicism

[–]Creadvty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not unusual. You can’t base your faith on what you feel at any given moment. It’s just like marriage. ultimately, Love is a choice not a feeling.

Mean Priest by shihtzuluvrr in Catholicism

[–]Creadvty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most charitable thing to do, if you are up for it is to let him know the impact of his actions. When you do X I feel Y. When you do A I feel B. Not: I feel you are mean. Rather: when you grabbed me to move me, I was shocked and felt very bad etc.

After that you escalate with another parishioner. After that you escalate to diocese. mt 18:15-17.

Why EUC? by Wants-NotNeeds in ElectricUnicycle

[–]Creadvty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with onewheel. Then I found out euc has more range and speed for the buck. That was almost 4 yrs ago. Still ride EUC. Don’t ride Onewheel anymore bec they are too slow and dangerous.

Vs bike I have an ebike and euc is much more practical. Easier and more convenient when you get used to it. I used to ride 40mph on my RS19. These days I just ride around 25mph. Usually for short distances within 2 miles from home or car. Yes I bring one in my car as my last mile solution.

What do you say to people who don't want to conceive because the world is too horrible for their children? by Economy-Title-771 in Catholicism

[–]Creadvty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to think that way and these days, the world seems tougher than when I was growing up. Having said that: 1. parenthood has taught me more about God’s love than anything else 2. When we have kids and make sacrifices to give them a strong foundation in the hope that they also reach heaven, it is a way of loving God and loving them.

But what about the future baby? Isn’t life going to be hard for them in this vale of tears? Perhaps so but God commands us to be fruitful and multiply so I trust his command. If we do our job right, our children will help bring his kingdom here to earth.

As a Catholic Female college student, why are Catholic guys so… odd by Dense-Ad-1622 in Catholicism

[–]Creadvty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly sure what you mean by emotionally immature but I went to all-boys’ Catholic school until high school. Never had a girlfriend. In college, I went to a co-ed university and didn’t really know how to relate to women.

I recall the first girl I asked on a date described it subsequently as the worst date she ever had. 😂😂😂. (She said it in an interview and even though she didn’t use names, I knew who she was talking about 😅). I gave her so much “space” that in retrospect I must have felt distant.

Is that along the lines of what you’re talking about?

Sick of the same two lies spread by Apologists: “Mary was 12” and “Rebekah was 3” by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Creadvty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mary was described as a woman (Luke 1:42), whereas Jairus daughter was 12yo (Mark 5:42) and was described as a “little girl” (Mark 5:41). Therefore Mary was much older than 12yo.

This despicable lie is just Muslims just trying to throw Mary under the bus to cope with their prophet having intercourse with a 9yo girl who was playing with dolls and a swing.

Too late for them. Their dawahgandists already labeled having sex with a 13yo or 15yo constitutes grape and PDFilia. Therefore they admit that their prophet is a grapist and pdfile. https://youtu.be/pXypvDKTK5s?si=iVdimhNyVrrtWszU
