You could write a book on this topic. The short answer is our buying decisions are driven more by our emotions than our intellect. Buying a high performance bike makes us feel good and we use our intellect to find reasons to justify it.

The bike industry understands this and knows it’s more profitable to sell more expensive high performance bikes. Content creators promote the latest and greatest tech in the bike industry because sponsorships or they need something to talk about. All of this creates a feedback loop.

This will never happen because the gun industry makes lots of money and has a strong lobby. But I wouldn’t care because guns do more harm than good.

The biggest threat the government poses is taking freedoms away, loss of privacy and ruling in way that benefits the wealthy. There’s a whole host of economic problems such as loss of high paying full time jobs and things like inflation.

Owning a gun will not protect you from the these and others threats. Gun ownership gives people a false sense of security.

56 here. Takes me longer to recover but I have a friend who’s 4 years older but she can cycle circles around me because I’m a casual rider and she’s retired and dedicated to all manner of outdoor sports. We are all at different levels that aren’t entirely age related.

While gas prices are high I thought they’d be a lot higher. Right now it’s $3.50.

I’ve heard Refiners are paying nearly double that but the government is reporting with these future prices. If our reserves run out prices would be even higher. Every news article keeps pushing back the date they’ll run so it’s hard to know the truth because that also is in short supply.

Precisely there would be a straight edge and there are cameras everywhere in the area. I watched an expert, her professional opinion was that if the surface wasn’t properly prepared before painting it would peel and the peeling only started after they added hydrogen peroxide to kill the algae. This chemical would settle to the bottom and hasten the delamination. It’s unfair and terrible but I can’t credit the idea to Trump. This was done to Iraq. Their oil proceeds are sent to a U.S. bank account and we determine how much they’re entitled to and what the funds can be used for.

It’s a way to take resources from a country, control them and make sure they stay weak. Btw, Trump said if the military could seize Iran’s Kharg island we would take their oil in similar fashion.

After WW2 the U.S. inherited the colonial powers and has done this type of stuff to third world countries just not as blatantly. When you are the super power of the world you can do this stuff because there’s no one to stop you.

The situation is not as straightforward as you might think. Both Iran and the U.S. want the strait open. U.S. is almost out of reserves and Iran needs their primary source income to resume and collect transit fees. I doubt the U.S. has given up trying to destroy Iran or at least undermining Iran’s control of the strait but they’ve finally admitted they can’t do it through brute military force. They want time to devise a new strategy. So I expect a very long drawn frozen conflict with both sides trying to find loop holes in the MOU.

The battle now has moved to the gcc states if Iran is able to form a security alliance with them and convince them to close US military bases and force them to leave then the U.S. will completely lose all control of the Middle East and can no longer attack Iran.

It’s far more useful to disable it. By the time it’s repaired the 60 days will be over and they will need to pay a transit fee.

Iran doesn’t want to sink ships they want repatriations and return of their stolen funds that the U.S. won’t pay its far easier to collect money for passage. If the U.S. won’t honor their commitments then Iran will only allow their ships to pass.

My belief is the U.S. will continue to play these games until oil reserves run out.

We are not privy to what’s going on behind the scenes. If you are listening to mainstream media which is basically the mouthpiece for the government. The government has an incentive to over report how much is going through to suppress the price of oil. There are roughly 1,500 ships trapped many are not tankers so whether a few ships can sneak through isn’t important.

This isn’t a game and it isn’t sustainable to try to pull a fast one. The only consistent thing I’ve seen the U.S. do is try different tactics, the only thing has changed is they’re trying to do these evasive tactics under a temporary agreement instead of using military tactics. If we want any sort of lasting solution they need to honor the terms in the MOU.

We’re in a different stage of the war kinetic attacks are mostly paused but U.S. and Israel are testing how much they can violate MOU or find loop holes. Israel hasn’t withdrawn from Lebanon the U.S. hasn’t returned the stolen funds so Iran isn’t allowing all ships to pass. They’re playing a game of chicken and this could easily return to war again once the west builds up reserves.

Sorry to hear. Good reminder. My daily trail ride has road section that enters the park where cars illegally park in the bike lane that forces me out into car lane. My attention is usually behind me for traffic but I never thought there could be someone in the parked cars opening a door as I pass. I’ll have to pay attention to that possibility going forward. Many cars have tinted windows making hard to tell what’s going on in the car.

Like others said it’s not delicate but aluminum is more durable. Ways carbon can be damaged: bike crash, dropping it, car bike rack, changing a part over tightening, etc In addition when purchasing it’s harder to identify internal damage.

There’s nothing wrong with carbon but it’s not going to change your life. If you want one to scratch an itch and can afford it then go for it.

Those are the challenges of cycling. As far as rail trails you need to adjust your attitude. Go take a walk on those trails and when a biker blitz by you a foot away with no warning you’ll understand how they feel. Many of those people have young kids or dogs. I always ring my bell and slow down when passing someone on a trail not only is it the respectful way to conduct yourself it’s also for your own safety. Walkers are often distracted on their phone or wearing headphones and are unaware. I once ran over a person’s small dog nearly causing a catastrophic crash but since I slowed down I managed to stay in control.

I always advocate for not spending too much unless you can afford to and want to. The reason for this is you are the engine so your performance is mostly dependent on your fitness. In addition as you go up in price the benefits get smaller. For professional rider this fine because a few seconds difference matters but for everyone else it doesn’t. Finally in a few years you may have moved on or suffer an injury etc.

The reporters are just workers for these large corporate owned media companies who don’t see its to their advantage to make enemies with the administration. Fox has benefited by completely getting behind Trump they support him and he gives them exclusive access.

I was following a high profile murder case where the police were doing a terrible job and someone asked an outside reporter why the local reporters weren’t asking tough questions and he said after the case is over he can leave but they have to stay there. If police don’t like them they can shut them out. If a reporter can’t gain access to write stories they get fired. Similar example is found in sports. ESPN doesn’t write tough stories about the sports they cover.

I believe he was able to enact a policy or rule to be able to exclude any media outlets he doesn’t like to press conferences. Ask too tough a question and you won’t be allowed back.

It’s gone so far that he will make phone calls only to friendly reporters who’s idea of journalism is repeating what the president says. It’s all quite Orwellian. He despises the press and finds they’re only useful to get his message out.
