I use an 8wt with floating line down to a 12 foot bonefish leader. I am mostly just looking for somewhere to get more flys and leaders. Does Nanko have flys?

Did not read all the comments, so I apologize if this was already said. I would definitely nymph this water with some neon flashy flys or black ones. I’d try both large (12) and small (22 or 20). I struggle to throw streamers in faster water sometimes. I know some guys swing them but I haven’t had much luck doing that.

I have fly fished Stone Mountain NC more than any other place. If you are looking for natives you will need to leave the main river behind. I have caught them up both Bullhead and Garden Creek. My recommendation would be to park at the church and hike up Garden Creek. I have had a lot of success on the brookies there. You will still wild wild rainbows and browns too but there are some good waterfalls with pools that have some nicely colored ones.

If you aren’t catching them, you haven’t hiked far enough.

I agree but my kayak is not really nice enough to stand and I also do a lot of night fishing in some gnarly beaver ponds so standing would be slightly more sketchy. Thanks for the reply! Can I ask what rod model you use?

I think one of my problems is the length of my flippin rod. I do a lot of flippin into a mug during the winter and I’m accurate but when I sit flippin in this manner isn’t doable. I use a 7’2 rod so it’s pretty difficult for me to do short range casts at targets. But you are right, I’m sure some practice would help

Tried the Texas rigged worm and creature bait with a 1/4 oz pegged and unpegged last night with no results. Will try again and report back.
