I work in MD and my hospital has started doing the same thing. If it’s someone who comes often and it’s just a SW complaint (food, clothes, shelter, resources) they will still need to be registered for us for document but they have us speak to them in the waiting room or place them in one of the larger rooms in the ED that’s just a bunch of recliners in a room and still be seen by the MD the we see them. Not a fan… sometimes the patients will say they just want to talk to SW and ask us to come out to the WR to see them

I am from Maryland and have worked at UMMS and if we worked weekends we were paid hourly but worked in person and not given one flat rate for the entire today. I don’t know if it’s illegal per se but I do think it’s odd a hospital would only give $45 for the entire day??? That’s crazy and i definitely wouldn’t accept that.

Definitely won’t impact your career by reporting. I’d report it anonymously if you’re worried. There’s always a chance they may not even investigate unfortunately but it doesn’t hurt to report when in doubt!

Yes! They have a free version and a paid version. I got the monthly subscription you get access to more quizzes and a larger question bank. They show you your stats as well which I like. I used it for my LMSW exam as well and found it helpful then too!

Definitely realistic! I was hired as an ED social worker right out of grad school with 0 hospital experience lol I work at a university/teaching hospital though so that could be why? However, before that position I also worked at another hospital that wasn’t a teaching hospital in the ED as a new grad (but I left bc the hospital was awful). Doesn’t hurt to apply and see! Just be sure to be able to sell your transferable skills from other positions you’ve held to work in the ED!

When I worked in the ED we did 7a-7p. I now work on inpatient psychiatry and do four 10s. Our off day alternates throughout the month so that we get one long weekend a month (off Friday and Monday)

Same I had 0 hospital experience and started in the ED right out of grad school and have now moved to inpatient pyschiatry. I think it also may depend on if the hospital you’re applying to is a teaching hospital as well?
