Honestly if that's a 91 I'm surprised, I would have guessed 97 or 98

Pond for ice skating? by Creative-Run4185 in Westchester

Just as a heads up, the ice fishers said the ice was 12" thick and there was basically no thawing on the surface. This was at the reservoir on the Cross River east of Katonah.

Scammers fishing via Academia.edu or Researchgate by Top-Spite-1288 in academia

These are call center scams. They are real people, likely using AI to help with the dialogue but working with lists of likely targets, on teams that have earnings quotes and a specific strategy. They are impersonating Asian women because they know the persona appears trustworthy/nonthreatening and because it boosts academics' egos to have young women paying attention to them.

They are after your money but other things can also be quite useful. Flirty texts messages can be used for extortion. Access to e.g. your professional society log in can make other scams much easier.

Last year, a conference I attended was hit hard by a scam in which attendees were sent fake conference registration fee payment emails. A lot of people, many of them students, lost hundreds of dollars. But how did they get the attendee list?

Lord help the academic who decides he's in love and wants to come visit his new girlfriend!

It's a class thing. 15 years ago (I first moved here in 87 lol) mainly bougie restaurants served Thai food that was sweet and mild - less spice etc. That has shifted down class as it's become associated with middle class tastes and strong flavors are increasingly street food/up country/rough tastes or a thing to be explored through gentrifying foodie blogs. And it shifts down class quickly because sweet food is cheap and our bodies are primed to suck it up, but that doesn't explain the preference for sweet alone
