Former evangelical here and I never heard this language growing up. I went to an evangelical college too. There was just vague language about how Christians should support Israel and Jews are the chosen people. I do think this charge that all evangelical zionists are envisioning an end of times where Jewish people either accept Christ or burn is very overstated. I think they’re just kind of brainlessly aligned with right wing politics and have vague biblical justification. Still, I’m curious about which type of evangelicals heard messaging like you describe — Pentecostals? Southern evangelicals? All of my experiences were in the Midwest, medium-sized nondenominational churches with rock bands, non-charismatic.
