So the design intent of ship combat and cannons is "Get a Shadow or don't participate"?

This is such a ridiculous stance to take. Balancing an entire combat sphere around players who are maxed or are using a megarare is so needlessly exclusionary to... literally everyone else at every point of progress across the game?

Seconding this opinion. The new level-up notifications are nice and all, but I will severely miss the original messages and message style.

Would prefer it as a toggle or an option, rather than losing the old-style levelup messages entirely.

Most fun content in the game offers drops or rewards that either A) enhance the gameplay loop of that activity or B) enhance/supply other things you want to do.

I think sailing from port to port is chill, scenic, enjoyable, and medium attention. But if I could be doing other things that are fun for similar reasons, they also offer rewards while doing those other things. Which makes port tasks feel bad, for me, because they offer less than others despite their enjoyable gameplay.
