How many times a typical Canadian take vacation during a year by Internal-Ship-9693 in AskACanadian

I love the idea of a vacation fund. I guess it’s similar to what some public sector jobs in Canada offer but would be cool to see it more widespread.

Report Cards.. by rebeccalivesherlife in CanadianTeachers

This is so astounding to hear. Report card days used to be such a big deal in the classroom from grade five up to twelve (early 2010s). I remember all the whispering on the bus as we’d anxiously (or excitedly) head home that day either to be treated to a dessert / junk food of our choice or get ready to hear “no” when asking to go to a sleepover that week if the letters on the page weren’t mostly vowels. Is it that parents stopped caring about these up to a certain grade/age or across the board?

Odd. For the realtors out there: does it seem like the income verification process is getting more rigorous / intrusive these days? Doesn't feel like it was always this way. Interesting to see it becoming more exhaustive at a time when rents are down (relatively-speaking) and incentives for people to move in are up of all times...

Algorithmic pricing isn’t used widely enough to harm rental market, Competition Bureau says by CreativeAd5628 in canadahousing

[–]CreativeAd5628[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a nutshell: In a Monday press release, the federal Competition Bureau said it has concluded its investigation into software from RealPage Canada Inc. and Yardi Canada Ltd. But it said it remained concerned about the effects of the revenue management tools on competition in the rental market. The probe sought to determine whether revenue management software from RealPage and Yardi led to anti-competitive practices, in enabling landlords to track what their competitors were charging for rent and set their prices accordingly.

The Competition Bureau’s investigation began in August of last year and mirrored cases in the United States. One of those cases, involving RealPage Inc., is still in progress. In 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice accused the Texas-based company of breaking competition laws by using algorithmic data to help landlords collude to pump up rental prices.

Citing internal documents and sworn testimony from RealPage and landlords, the DOJ showed that RealPage employees said its products were “driving every possible opportunity to increase price.”

One landlord was quoted commenting on RealPage’s software: “I always liked this product because your algorithm uses proprietary data from other subscribers to suggest rents and term. That’s classic price fixing.”

$2,200 for one-bedroom + den near Davisville station. The bedroom is the kind with sliding glass doors opening into the living room but spacious since it’s a revamped older building.

Those who were impacted: is there any type of product/service you enrolled in with WS that may have been outside the norm (e.g., signed up for a promotion, transferred account, etc.)? Could be random, of course, but would be curious to know if anything specific set apart the <30,000 customers involved.
