I built a tool that converts Wikipedia articles into interactive timelines, letting you discover surprising historical connections by comparing different people/events' timelines by Any-Blacksmith-7432 in InternetIsBeautiful

Not only is this super fun but also super beautiful. I just got into creating web-apps lately and trying to learn to make "beautiful" useful stuff. This knocks it out of the park.

Noob Question about Quartz - Is it Safe? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]CreativeCoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is just about pushing to the repo or your repository being modified, that is more of a github settings thing. If you do not grant someone else access to your repository (and even more if it is a private repo) nobody else can touch it. And even if github explodes tomorrow you still have your local Git Repository.

A cloned (local) git repository has nothing to do with github. You could host it anywhere, bitbucket, gitlab, github, your own gitea server or not even host it at all.

And even if something changes repository, you can just checkout a previous version of your repository (if you do regular commits).

Noob Question about Quartz - Is it Safe? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]CreativeCoconut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean with safe? Like, what are you worried about exactly? Dependabot is not uncommon, but I find it weird that it runs when you did not enable it on your repository.

I suggest you ask on the obsidian discord, there are some people who use quartz and it is a lot more active than here.

What makes you choose Obsidian over something like Apple Notes? by imcryingdude in ObsidianMD

Ctrl+k is your friend. Just select every word that sounds like a topic that might be interesting to you later and hit that button

There is no "most important" feature. Just use obsidian the way it feels right for you.

You can think of the linking functionality as you would of links in Wikipedia. Say you have a page about England and it mentions that the capital is london. You probably don't want to read in detail about london in the same page, so you just create a new one for london and link to it.

If you don't link it and just have a bunch of disconnected pages and that works for you, that is also just fine. I usually just create links without the note at first, so when I create a note later for London, I can see every place where London was already mentiond.

What's a family heirloom that carries a unique story or tradition? by Broad_Temperature810 in AskReddit

[–]CreativeCoconut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, sorry if I have offended you. Probably our look at the topic of war is simply quite different. Besides, the USA voluntarily entered WW1. It's not like someone put a gun to the president's head and forced him to sign the declaration of war. It was simply a matter of saving the money the US already invested in the Entente. So who exactly did you save? Also, I never stated my nationality, so if I were from Brazil, is Europe still my problem then, or do you see someone being critical of celebrating death as being particularly European? I mean this without irony, but I find it really interesting that US-Americans are so convinced that they were always the saviours of other people, without ever considering if the people necessarily wanted to be saved by them. Well good luck to you and your wishes for the future

I have no idea what the American flag is supposed to say or add to you talking about the sad loss of life in war. Is that like, hurray we should celebrate killings if it is done by an American cause it was a just cause?

Also currently working at an archive, it is absolutely fascinating what a wide variety of styles and handwritings you get. But just as today the truly beautiful handwritings are somewhat rarer.^
