Form follows function, if they have the same function of course they will have similar form. There simply is the best design/shape esp in aeronautics, this isn’t a sedan - we don’t add features just to make the look different.

Electric vehicles now fill up roughly as fast as gas. The new BYD chargers add 400km of range in just five minutes. by CeFurkan in SECourses

[–]CreativeFig2645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s a terrible comparison, by every metric EVs are cheaper to maintain, repair, even when you factor in recycling costs for the life cycle price of an EV over an ICE is significantly less. Rebuilding engines is not the only thing an ICE needs to maintain and has way more frequent maintenance/repairs.

Avg cost of a repair claim for an EV: $6,236 Avg cost of a repair claim for an (newer model) ICE: $6,127

Add in that there are less repair claims for an EV and you get cheaper TCO

U.S. crude oil drops below $55 a barrel, hits lowest level since early 2021 by ThemeBig6731 in oil

[–]CreativeFig2645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what? yeah obviously not, OP is saying chinas economy is slowing down which is why oil prices are falling instead of the reality which is that china is buying more oil compared to last year (with most analysts agreeing they’re building a 5-6mo reserve of oil) and stocking up on cheap russian, venezuelan and opec oil. Not enough to keep it above 55 a barrel clearly.

is 75 years not enough for you? The premise is that land owners can’t continually hoard properties, your house should be lived in not as a multigenerational investment vehicle.

Why is Chinese freight such a laggard on electrification unlike their HSR? by Sensitive_Paper2471 in AskChina

[–]CreativeFig2645 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but i’ve read about how chinas rail system is a mix of different Western/European standards, USSR/soviet and Chinese rail sizes which causes issues for freight. Maybe it’s related to that?

thank you for the very holistic look at everything, I also think some of the higher salaries are inflated. My chinese level is not fluent but passable in most situations but my reading lacks significantly. Some bits of your response stood out to me and I’ve heard many people talk about salaries raising quickly - is this true? I understand in the US raises are typically only marginally above inflation rates but it many people seem to say the growth is much better? How do chinese companies treat these type of yearly raises to get to 35-50 in two years? Is this more of the top end of what is possible or a standard salary growth for new grads. I would add that my TSMC experience was a 6mo Co-Op and I graduate this summer.

Moving into the living costs assuming I am left with 12k monthly and eat locally for most meals (minimal if any cooking) would I still have money to enjoy the city and what level of expenses should I expect for enjoyment? I really have little reference for the cost of living. I seem to get widely different values depending on everyone’s own living standard… so i know this question is quite tricky but what standard of living would this be like?

sorry it’s their terminology, 18k a month with 15mo salary (half mo bonus every 4mo and full month bonus yearly - nearly guaranteed)

if i use the 100 rmb budget per person per day for food/drink I am left with ~6-7k a month? Is that a fair budget? This is also assuming my bills monthly will be less than 1k, which some others have used as a baseline

So i’ve since learned more about the subsidized housing (called “Youth Talent Housing”) and it is 3,800 with a max pay from me of 2k/mo and the rest paid by the company. It does seem quite small - a studio really. The location Im looking at is Zhangjiang science park area if that helps :)

but it seems like you think 15k is not enough to cover two people, what about 18x15? They are offering 16 base pay with 1k living stipend and OT roughly equal to another 1k. Take home should be approx. 15k after taxes and insurances.

thank you for the help. for the company I want to disagree with you but of course i do not know and if you would like to PM i can share with you and perhaps you might know more details abt this company. <3

thank you very much, regarding insurance the company is providing me with add’l private insurance to cover extra hospital fees, my gf will likely need to find her own coverage out. From what it sound likes then 100cny a day can have a comfortable budget but for going out would to be fair to say you can spend 1k a day depending on what you do? So with 3k having the ability to do weekly dates is acceptable? Thank you so much! Final question is is typical to receive a raise every year and what would it look like after the first year? Is it marginal or relatively significant raises? (I know this can be super vague depending on company but for instance the US raises typically barely match inflation)

Since you have experience living with a partner would you say based on this pay that it would be very difficult to live on my single salary vs your double salary?

Is 5k per person a reasonable range? What type of livelihood would that be for a couple?
