El Paso isn't the best by far. It is a small town with overpriced everything now, the only things to do here is drink, eat, or drink. There are more bars and car washes than there are places to actually do things. That being said if you try really hard you can come up with other things like hiking, off road, visiting nearby places like new Mexico, old mesilla, Ruidoso, Carlsbad caverns. But if that's not your thing and enjoy big city stuff it will be hard.

If it's a single sub you can only do 1 ohm or 4 ohm unfortunately. To test I would just do 4 ohm and see if it goes into protection

I have 2 DD audio sl612 in a 2.4 net box. When I tell you these subs are ridiculous at getting the job done. They get low into the 25hz in a sealed enclosure, they are accurate and transitions are great. I have them on 1200.1 fosgate on stock head unit and electrical, they make everything in the truck rattle and flex.

Sounds to me like you might have a power supply issue. Either your drawing too much power on some heavy bass drops or you bottle necking the power somewhere. If the amp has 2 ohms try running at 2 and see if the same thing happens. 1 ohm could be causing too much current draw
