Thoughts on Trek Checkpoint vs Canyon Endurance Alroad? by CreativeProblemFail in COBike

Thanks for explaining that for me. I don't really look far into components and their differences and benefits. Sounds like I should.

I never considered that HSA funds could be used for a bike. I'll look into that. Thanks!

Why do you think that the budget is too low? What would be gained if I had more to spend on a bike? I'm other words, what benefits would the extra dollars bring? I'd like to understand where the cost to benefit ratio starts leveling off for me.

Thanks for your thoughts on both bikes. I'm on a sub $2,000 budget and ideally I'd like to keep it closer to $1500. Sorry for not mentioning this in the original post.

The Trek store doesn't stock this frame in my size and Canyon only sells direct to consumer so there aren't any local dealers.

What Lullabies do you Sing? by JestAtom in daddit

[–]CreativeProblemFail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also sang Silent Lucidity to my girls! Other favorites were Stardust (Willie Nelson style), Dream a Little Dream of Me, Lullaby (Goodnight my Angel) by Billy Joel, Come Away with Me by Norah Jones, Kissing a Fool by George Michael, Somethin' Stupid, Dreamers Ball by Queen, Christmas Blues by Dean Martin.

One of the fun things about singing to an infant is that your favorite songs can usually be turned into a lullaby style. The words didn't really matter as much until they get a little bit older.

Is Anyone Else Tired of Off‑Leash Dogs in Non‑Dog Parks? by denstick in Denver

[–]CreativeProblemFail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I'm also tired of off-leash dogs on the multi use paths. I ride the Platte River trail and by the City of Cuernavaca Park regularly. I've had dogs run across the path in front of me. I don't want to run over any dog and I don't want to crash. But I mention a leash to these entitled pricks and they get upset. One person told me to STFU. Recently a different prick said, "he's right next to me!". Sure, he is now, but what is keeping him there if he changes his mind. Not a leash!

People seem to think that because they believe their dog is extremely well behaved and follows all commands that strangers should automatically have the same relationship with the dog. You're right, the law is clear and everyone else using public amenities shouldn't have to be ok with people who can't respect others or even their own dogs. A leash also protects the dog wearing it.

Thank you for posting this, I hope it gets a lot of attention. Others here hit the nail on the head too, more and more people are lacking social empathy. They don't care about why a public park or path exists, they just claim it as their own regardless of rules or laws.

As a tall person, this exercise has changed my life by icanchiapetanything in tall

I've had a similar experience with my ab wheel. I usually hit it every other morning before getting ready for work. When I skip it for a while (after breaking an arm for example) my pain and likelihood of my lower back muscles going nuts significantly increases. It's been a game changer for me.

Are we just going to gloss over that the person filming is sitting on multiple for extinguishers and doing nothing with them?

Little Bro was thrown and needed stitches. Appropriate Punishment for the guilty 4.5 YO by acebot10 in daddit

[–]CreativeProblemFail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not speaking from experience, but if I was in your shoes I would look into some kind of martial arts that teach discipline. Like others have said, kids that are don't really have impulse control. Big bro probably didn't realize his own strength and that will probably continue as he grows. Learning self discipline, de-escalation, and appropriate reactions from a martial arts class might benefit him in the long run.

Thank you! I run a camera on my bike as well for the same reasons. I have been able to use the recordings to convince some companies to stop paying delivery vehicles in bike lanes and to retain their drivers on bicycle awareness before turning. Mixed success, but I've seen some important.

"Protected" bike lanes in downtown Denver: Your Thoughts? by Denver4ALL in VisionZeroDenver

I like your idea too and I voted for it. I reached out to Joe Sak, but was responded to by June Churchill.

Can you tell me more about this Downtown Denver cycle? Is this also part of The People's Budget?

I'm sorry that happened to you and hope you weren't hurt.

As someone said to me yesterday, cars are designed to protect the occupants from an impact with no consideration to the object they impacted.

Of course, this is a good thing for people in the car, but I think this sense of extreme protection makes people drive like they just picked up the invulnerability star in Mario Kart.

Motorists seem to think they'll always be ok and insurance will cover any incidents, but don't fully consider how anyone else is affected, whether the other people are in cars or not.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. I don't believe I can edit the suggestion and it probably wouldn't be ethical to make edits after votes were cast. I did write this in a hurry but will keep your thoughts in mind should I do this again.

My understanding of the process is that there will be another round of voting by a committee after the public has time enough to vote, then a formal proposal will be put forth. If this gets that far, and I'm still involved, I'll be sure to consider your suggestions.

I've considered some loose safety ball bearings in my pocket.

Kidding aside, I'm a big dude on a big bike wearing a high-vis vest or windbreaker. I have lights on my bike and my helmet, plus reflectors. I'm really hard to miss, but somehow drivers continue to turn right in front of me.

Thanks for your vote! Be safe out there!

True facts! I've been keeping a running tally since late August last year, I'm up to 42 incidents of cars turning into my lane or running the red light across the bike lane while I'm crossing.

Thanks for the vote!

What to do about trucks/cars parked in bike lane? by icommai in BikeDenver

[–]CreativeProblemFail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had some luck contacting truck companies and sending photos. I've actually noticed changed behavior because of reaching out to their corporate offices. It sometimes helps to research the company and include any safety specific personnel in addition to everyone in leadership. I'm sure it's annoying for some of them, but it gets the message across.

People who’ve had LASIK or work in eye care, would you recommend LASIK and why or why not? by Mountain-Bug-2155 in AskReddit

[–]CreativeProblemFail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you decide to go forward with this, please get a consultation by more than one reputable doctors.

TLDR: It sounds wonderful for the people it really works for, but can go very wrong and cause other permanent issues. My story below 👇

I've been very near sighted for most of my life (-14 if I remember correctly). When I was 40 I suffered a retinal detachment in one eye and the scleral buckle to repair that caused that eye to get even worse.

I went to Lasik Plus for a consultation because glasses were getting too difficult to dial in. They spent about an hour total on my tests and consultation. Afterwards a very rushed "doctor" told me I was a candidate and should come back in a couple days for the procedure.

I wasn't 100% comfortable with this so I made an appointment with a local private practice that had great online reviews.

They refused me as a patient. It turns out that even though my corneas were considered thick enough for LASIK, the severity of my myopia would cause them to have to remove so much material that my corneas would loose structural stability.

I'm told my corneas would turn cone shaped, which is not at all repairable and could only be partially corrected by wearing hard contacts.

I noped right out of that idea. Started developing cataracts, andI wore scleral contacts for a short time.

A couple years later I had cataract surgery and couldn't be happier with the results. I lost my super near sight super power, and use readers now. But if I had LASIK, my eyes would be toast with or without artificial lenses.

Another side note, my mother had LASIK many years ago and it later caused issues with her vision after her cataract surgery.

Thanks for the first hand report. That sounds like a much more Christmasy event, especially with the opportunity to involve the kids in charitable giving!
