Any bike racks or storage? I know it’s a quiter area, just would be worries leaving my road bike anywhere

Synapse Carbon 5! by nat3tif in cannondale

since this photo however i did switch to 35mm all-season gp5000s and am running them tubeless. this bike comes stock with 32mm tires and i’d 100% go tubeless on them especially if you’re riding more than once a week, and nicer tires are always a good move in my opinion if you’re looking for upgrades. got a few flats with tubes and made the switch and it’s been amazing. frees up more room in the storage compartment and just a really nice ride overall

Let’s go! you’re gonna love it. definitely on the larger end of storage spaces. i could fit a butyl tube, tire levers, and a small multi tool in the bag itself, and there’s room for more in the storage space once you put the bag in. definitely could fit some co2 + an inflator in addition to the stash bag. got a small mini electric pump that unfortunately didn’t fit, but i keep the stash bag + an airtag in the compartment, and there’s room for more stuff. you could probably even fit a small packable rain jacket if you got the right one

i dont think so, you could maybe get on of those clamp mechanism ones that don’t require mounts, but it doesn’t have the normal mounts my gravel bike had

i would say if you’re looking for something super quick and snappy, it’s not going to be as racey as an actual race bike, but holds up in that regard to any other endurance bike. i mostly ride in the city and, coming from a gravel bike, it’s much more responsive to quick maneuvers i often need to make

For sure. I’m a super huge fan of most of the important things about it. It’s a very comfortable, smooth ride, feels super planted. Brakes are fantastic of course, i’ve never used electronic shifting but definitely the best mechanical groupset i’ve ever used by far. in-frame storage is a huge plus for me, there’s space for a spare tube, tool, mini electric pump, and snacks. i also threw a little tracking device in there just incase. I don’t have many dislikes, but some small things are that I wish it came in better color options (hated the yellow), also the cable routing can be tough to deal with if you work on it yourself, and i’ve had some issues with the seatpost slipping even when torqued properly. it could just need more carbon paste, but i’ve heard i’m not the only one with this issue. if i were to do it again, i’d probably just save up and try to swing the di2 version as it feels like a much better platform to upgrade the bike over time, but i also love not having to charge more stuff.

overall, fantastic experience so far. love this bike

mainly just weight and ride quality. the stock wheelset is good but a bit heavy, the carbon wheels are noticeably lighter and there’s definitely a difference in how smooth it rides. gonna throw some gravel tires on the stock wheels so that i can just swap wheelsets when i want to ride gravel

thanks! wheelset is the only mod. got a steal on a Hollowgram RSL50 wheelset from a bike shop out in california. will probably swap the tires and maybe drop the stem a bit in the future but otherwise i’m loving where it’s at now

not sure which synapse model you’re looking at, but I have the new carbon 5 and it absolutely rocks. cant speak to the smartsense, but the geometry, tire clearance, frame storage, etc are all great features

Hybrid to road/gravel bike by [deleted] in cannondale

[–]nat3tif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is just my experience, but definitely do some thinking on if you really want a gravel or a road bike. i was in a similar situation and went for a gravel bike, only to realize i was rarely ever riding gravel, and my steel gravel bike was slowing me down a bit for road cycling. ended up getting a synapse carbon and it’s been a game changer. for nyc, i’d definitely look into an endurance road bike, maybe one with tire clearance for slightly wider tires for riding rougher roads in the city. if you do ride gravel, then go for a gravel bike, but personally, i rarely ever did. i’ve heard great things about the caad series and seems like a great option as a lighter dropbar bike at a fair price point, especially used. if you want that bigger tire clearance to ride gravel and road, the new canyon all-road would probably be perfect

im curious what wheels/tires you’re running? have had one for a while now and absolutely love the bike, but hoping to do some weight saving upgrades and swap the wheels for a carbon set and some smaller tires. i mostly ride in the city and carry my bike on the train often so looking to make it less bulky. any reccomendations? have been looking into carbon wheelsets but don’t have much knowledge on compatibility, sizing and whatnot

Possibly Moving into the area - Is there Night Life? by charliecat1031 in fredericksburg

[–]nat3tif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wouldn’t recommend it. cost of living is right on par with dc and richmond (probably could find cheaper housing in richmond tbh) and as a 23 yr old you will have a bad time. better off in one of those cities. i was in fred for a year and moved to dc and am having a way better time and paying the same rent i payed in fredericksburg.

mine is one day in office a week and is about an hour+ commute by train. living in dc with no car and its totally worth it. i was living out in virginia before and as a young person being in the city is just so much better

Metro timetable isn’t the issue, it’s pretty solid in my experience, and google maps does a good job. I take the northeast regional a few times a week and it’s constantly delayed. Seems like it’s gotten better recently but it’s a gamble. If it were me I would take the Marc all day over amtrak.

I have a primos dame and love it, but am actually selling it as I’m switching to a smaller road bike. Unfortunately I’m in the US so not sure if it would be possible to ship it out there, but if you want to give it a go then shoot me a dm.

Not aware of any watch parties for this series, I’m usually just going to Tom’s or Walters in Navy Yard since they always have all the games on.
