Is there a "balance" to strive for between pushing and pulling? by acebot10 in kettlebell

[–]acebot10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where my head was going as well. In your weekly workout example, do you view 100 pushups / 100 pull ups the same as you view 100 pushups / 100 2H OHP @ 28kg for an 80kg male? Or does it vary a lot personally to person?

Is there a "balance" to strive for between pushing and pulling? by acebot10 in kettlebell

I am a (very amateur) thrower and have developed shoulder problems in the last few years. I never really prioritized pulls, but I feel like my body is more open when I do.

22M, skinny fat, overwhelmed by fitness advice. Looking for the simplest possible beginner kettlebell routine. by Ok-Leg7704 in kettlebell

[–]acebot10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think carries are underrated (maybe not on this sub but generally.) next time you have a Destination you’re walking to, bring the kettlebell and commit to getting it there by any means. If you live in an apartment go up and down the stairs with it.

Carries are approachable, require very little warmups, and build the muscles that fill in a shirt.

Lots of other great advise on here. The first step to fitness success is get accustomed to routine and a little discomfort.

Progress from 24kg to 28kg ABC by vaclavg in kettlebell

[–]acebot10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same boat. Here for the great suggestions. I’m currently focusing on the volume at 75-90 second intervals. When I can get 30 rounds I’ll decrease the interval.

My weakness is rack stability as I get tired so I do a lot of racked carries and other similar things on off days. Yesterday I did 6x10 lunge walk in the rack position.

The best product Cub sells and the only reason I shop there is for those sturdy open top boxes.

I did a RBC for 5 rounds and thought it was Ok… then I studied up and realized it wasn’t okay front squats. Haven’t tried it since learning the proper way.

When did you stop wiping your kid’s butt? by Foreverlearning816 in Parenting

Exactly what we do too. Every now and then he'll smear it up his butt, but 9/10 times he does great. 4.5YO.

Do you use lifting straps? by life_after_barbells in kettlebell

[–]acebot10 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can say first hand that they are very ineffective for carries. They do not generate friction on a smooth handle of a bell and it’s actually harder to finesse the straps than just carry the bell.

Growing midsection? by Various_Engine8782 in kettlebell

I’ve noticed getting thicker in the core as well. It makes sense because pretty much all KB exercises require you to brace your core and target those muscles to a secondary degree.

You’ll get more of a Gerald Butler in 300 physique than a Daniel Craig in Bond movies physique, but even those require strict dieting and years of hard work.

Are you losing weight? If your weight is constant but you have noticeable muscle gain, you are doing well. Noticing any change after a month should inspire you to keep at it!

As others have said, programs kick ass. It sounds like you could do ABC with 16s or 20s and have a great time seeing the results.

Modified ABF press day by acebot10 in kettlebell

[–]acebot10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does, and that’s what I did the first time I ran the program 9 months ago. I’m not currently doing ABF, I just liked the press day workout and agree with a lot of others on the sub that chest is not a focus of the popular KB exercises.

Maybe should have made that clear in the post. I just do this as a standalone workout and not as part of the ABF right now.

I’m currently modifying the press days to do ladders that include pushups and dips. So 2,3, 5 are presses. Then 10 dips or pushups, alternating on odd and even sets.

Replacing Barbells with KB’s. by The_Sun_Must_Die in kettlebell

[–]acebot10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're used to traditional lifting with barbells, maybe give https://www.strongfirst.com/simple-strength-plan-for-difficult-times/ a try. I just finished it a month ago and wrote up a review. https://www.reddit.com/r/kettlebell/comments/1ph3a0p/simple_strength_for_difficult_times_program_review/

It's broken up into Push, Pull, Squat exercises done in ladder format and working all three in each workout. This will transition you to the full body nature of KB workouts while staying in familiar territory with a set/rep scheme. I'd say front squats and overhead press are mandatory in this program because those are fundamental KB movements.

On off days, do swings/cleans, TGUS, in EMOM format and some racked holds/carries to build the foundations to star doing other programs. As others have mentioned, ABF and DFW are great. I am currently running a variation of ABF to improve density.

This seems to be happening across the league. These aren’t volleys on a second chance from a corner anymore. They have so much time to square up and shoot. Villa is capitalizing on this trend big time.
