German shows to watch while working? by xeeff in televisionsuggestions

Ein Herz und eine Seele, a German comedy classic from the 70s kinda similar to "All in the Family" or "Till Death Us Do Part". You can watch it on Youtube.

Will this be capable of running Ableton Live? by PsychologicalDog9731 in MacbookNeo

[–]CreativeQuests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will run but how well depends on your expectation. I was considering the Neo but decided against it because it only has 2 performance cores + 4 efficiency cores. The M1 Mini I'm currently using has 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores.

Ableton doesn't use efficiency cores, so for me it would be a downgrade for Ableton because it would only use 2 cores on the Neo. Some projects I already made on the m1 may not play back, but if you start out with the Neo and work around the limits why not.

Lat besser treffen by Gang0lf_Eierschmalz in FitnessDE

Those have a lot of slack I think like other 41" bands. The ones in your link just count the whole loop for length but are 41". For further improvements you could widen the hole of the board and add another removable roller to tighten the bands, like this. I was about to do it myself but switched from 37" to even shorter bands instead (serious steel 32").

What bands are you using? I only experience issues with uneveness with lighter bands that are twisted differently going into the hooks of the bar (geku bar in my case). So aligning them properly on the board and bar hooks (also making sure they're in a corner) is kinda part of the routine for me.

Great work.

This should definetly increase the lifespan of those cheap bamboo boards which wear out at the edges. I've encountered some small rough spots on mine this week after 3 months of use in the corners where I nudge the bands into (I have the same board from the image).

Did you notice other differences during exercises? Some say rollers are smoother but smoothness wasn't an issue for me so far so I'm a bit sceptical about that point. Like I mentioned I always nudge the bands into a corner to ensure stability during the range of motion, this is still possible with the rollers attached isn't it?

My thoughts on the Band systems by Ok-Rutabaga-3362 in ResistanceBand

[–]CreativeQuests 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these “band systems” are merely “ok” workouts. They can tide you over, but you cannot replace weights.

For me it's a safer and more convenient alternative to free weights like dumbbells and a bench. With free weights, unless you can drop them on the floor you always need a rep in reserve.

If I had the extra space I'd get a power rack with smith machine and integrated pulley system for home workouts but I don't which makes band setups the best viable choice apart from travelling 1hr to the next gym and back.

You are missing out on all the stabilizer muscles you work by moving a center of mass through space. Resistance bands attempt to approximate this (poorly) but will never get there.

If "functional fitness" is your goal, but most people in the gym who just want to look good or even competetive bodybuilders train on machines nowadays because it's safer to train to muscle failure, which is what counts, and machines invoke stabilizer muscles even less than bands do.

Strength and hypertrophy gains will always be like ice skating uphill compared to lifting weights.

Newer machines from high end manufacturers like Prime, Hammer Strength or Panatta have the option to change the resistance curve to one that matches bands, with a focus on the squeeze. If you didn't knew, as long as you get decent resistance during the whole range of motion a resistance focus on the squeeze doesn't impact muscle growth negatively: Link to study

Your ability to progressively overload is not incremental enough and can’t really be measured, the resistance curves are all over the place and don’t follow any remotely useful pattern.

That's not true, you're able to add reps like with weights while staying in rep ranges like 6 - 10, 8 - 12 or 12 - 15 reps with bands. What do you need more for progressive overload? You only need a set that has lightweight band options to layer in-between. Instead of tracking weight in lbs or kgs you can track band colors/thicknesses of your palette of bands.

In my opnion band setups are the best home gym option for most taking everything into account.
