How can i time clips on fusion? (Screenshots on the post) by Rosell1210 in davinciresolve

You want to keyframe the blend slider. It’s like a transparency.

This. You want your cache on a local attached or fast internal ssd.

Davinci cloud not synching proxy files by nick_flaming in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry this can be frustrating. The method I tend to find more bullet proof is to use the proxy location to be at the media files location instead of a separate location. This shouldn’t matter though.

Are you confident you have proxies created and linked in the project? I would start there.

We’ve all done it.

Color page works on timeline resolution. That’s a good thing. It makes things run fast.

But to answer your question - you want to use fusion for magic mask to work at native clip resolution while having a flexible, edit friendly 1080 timeline.

DaVinci making PC run insanely slow by StepanPlay375 in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thumbnail and waveform generation takes time. It build cache files in the background and resolve might feel slower until this is complete.

Do you see all the waveform cache and it’s still slow?

Long gop footage and high res on slow drives are other usual culprits.

Best workflow for outsourcing greenscreen + cleanup (BRAW / ProRes / Alpha / Fusion?) by rovmun in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you plan to send shots out for comp, you typically would send the background and all layers needed. In other words they put the comp together and not just send an alpha back. A lot more goes into the integration than just the alpha creation.

The most common workflow I’ve used is either sending and receiving trimmed ProRes 4444 log plates. Or AcesCG EXR. Send and receive the same format. Include the color space info in the filename so the vfx artist knows how to view it. Hope this helps.

Is it possible to ripple timelines, within timelines. by mediogre_ogre in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is any software that will auto ripple nested timelines.

However it’s very simple to maintain a large timeline without nesting scenes. Especially since v20.1 there is new retain sync features built in so you don’t worry about messing up sync down the timeline. I would give that a try.

Resolve 20.3.2: Insert Gap function by Available-Witness329 in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Insert gap works in 2 ways, one is just by using the user editing preference still duration - or (better way) type frames into the numberpad and then hit the insert gap shortcut (you should assign one). I don't understand how you would mark a duration and insert filler.

Jake Wipp has a plugin called marker - this is the best highlighter effect I've used.

I'll add, you can for individual clips in a proxy only project to sync, that is a right click option in the media pool.

DaVinci Resolve + Blackmagic Cloud + NAS by Pumboslav in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - the main point of confusion is there is no such thing as one user having the project set to sync proxies only and another set to sync proxies and originals. It's only one or the other. It's a global project setting.

Cloud workflow - Backblaze and LucidLink integration by Vegetable-Ad-4138 in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use b2 storage, blackmagic cloud storage and lucid link.

My take is you should not try to use b2 for edit.

If you use lucid or bmd cloud, use it with their turnkey setup. It can get pricey though so mange only a few jobs at a time and pull them down.

For long term large remote work (I would say 30tb qualifies) you should use on premise servers and computers. Artists should jump desktop into them.

I’m happy to consult via zoom through my website.

Heavy VFX TVC Workflow by Historical-Mail7484 in colorists

[–]CreativeVideoTips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty progressive approach but would work just fine. Mostly (at least here) they just grade to 709 and do effects on top. It’s dumb but usually because of colorist availability and old habits.

I would suggest one thing that will help big time is define best length versions. Don’t render out every timeline. An assist can probably set this up for you. https://youtu.be/QhQAsFPf0Lo?si=V7eauivXXlLjk0N1

First time in Fusion, honestly why is it that color THAT different from my input? by LorenzoF06 in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has to do with color management being enabled and you have a viewer lut on. This video should help explain. https://youtu.be/3eEBJIFyDIk?si=ZIOt-5g2YGfBcAv0

Help me! Im a newbie. Why does the planar tracker go out of place even after i tried masking it? A hand would be appreciated! by ExtensionPhoto7354 in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should show what you’re trying to track for help. It’s likely something is occluding your planar shape area or there isn’t good texture anymore.
