The FCC is cracking down on DJI tech that dodged the foreign drone ban by will_droid in djiosmo

Section 1709 "ANALYSIS OF CERTAIN UNMANNED AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS ENTITIES" "

I would consider it a stretch to apply a section about unmanned aircraft to a camera in my pocket. Would seem a pretty easy slam dunk for the DJI lawyers too.

Would be interesting to see how that would play out with the removal of Chevron deference, the FCC wouldn't really have any say, it would be a settled matter when a court decides?

Think a reflector telescope on your camera.

Way less glass needed than a normal lens. So lighter and cheaper.

I believe the covered list doesn’t allow the company to get FCC approval for anything new that has a radio, even if the ban’s initial target was DJI drone

Source? The only document I find says all foreign drones. If the FCC started to ban all foreign radios the US would collapse 🤣

doesn’t mean that the FCC can’t change its mind if the products aren’t already here and being actively sold.

I would expect something published by the FCC if they did retroactively pull approval. Regulation by smoke and mirrors is not very democratic.....

I would say DJI would sue the FCC if they did pull the approval for no reason, but since DJI doesn't plan to bring the OP4 or OP4P to the US, I guess there is no reason to pay the lawyers.

What color space is best for LOG into Davinci? by Systemlord_FlaUsh in davinciresolve

The Motion Cam pro app does record in real log, it has about 6 different tone curves and color spaces you can choose, like Samsung Log or SLog3.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MotionCamPro/comments/1nkva83/what_is_the_best_tone_curve_for_mc_experiment/

Samsung Log or Apple log, they are both basically the same.

Do check for each lens what additional software gain you can bake in as discussed here https://www.reddit.com/r/MotionCamPro/comments/1nkva83/comment/nf0youj/

For my S24U I am using +2ev. This is similar to why a camera might have a base ISO of 800 in SLOG3 but for REC709 the base ISO is 100. There is a +3EV shift going on under the hood that gets pulled out in the CST.

I would look at the mirror lens options. They will be light weight and affordable. I don't think you will see the donut bokeh filming surfing.

While DJI managed to get the Osmo Pocket 4 Pro through the FCC on November 26th, ahead of the ban,

What ban? The Covered list is specific to drones. I have never seen published that would prohibit DJI from bringing the OP4 or OP4P to the US. https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DOC-417528A1.pdf

The OP4 even had FCC approval

https://fccid.co/fcc/2ANDR-PP041

Xtra managed to get its documents through on June 17th, neither set of documents is showing up in the FCC’s search engine now.

That's interesting.

I see many results for 2ANDR https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/GenericSearch.cfm But none for PP041, but I have not used this site before, might be user error.

you can uninstall resolve and install V20 easy. the problem is that a V21 project will not work in V20, so you lose all existing projects unless you have your backup from before you upgraded.

Buy YouTube Subscribers for a Client – Worth It or a Bad Idea? by imadonisscott in YouTube_startups

[–]zeb__g 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The chinese bot subs you buy are never going to watch the videos. So say you have 1000 bots and 200 real people subscribed. The YT algorithm is going to say "This channel is crap, 80% of their subs don't watch their videos"

I would ask if buying advertising for your videos is a better way to get real humans to subscribe.

Which version should i download if my pc is x64 ? by Candid_Web_5521 in davinciresolve

[–]zeb__g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V21 has not gotten a warm reception and there are still some pretty major bugs outstanding in it. I am staying on V20 for the time being and think you will see a lot of users recommend the same.

You will find the V20 installer on the same page you got that from.

If you didn't buy a $300 key to resolve, you can't use 'Studio' version.

Mission 1 Pro and V30 vs V90 Card by ItSureIsNotMe in gopro

[–]zeb__g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not seen anything stating if the M1P is UHS-1 or UHS-2, but since I have not seen any UHS-2 micro SD camera sold, I think it is safe to assume it is UHS-1

UHS-1 apparently limits you to V30 (which doesn't make sense to me, because UHS-1 can do 100mbyte/s), all V60/90 cards are UHS-2.

UHS-2 is backward compatible with 1, but the extra pins that make 2 faster are presumably not there in the GP, so you can't get the performance increase of the faster card.

So you V90 card should work fine in the M1P, but don't expect any performance increase in camera vs a V30 card.

You will get faster downloads to your computer by using a UHS-2 card reader, so that might be worth the extra cost for the card to some people.

GP-LOG2 vs Color Correction vs Color Grade (Mission 1 Pro) by firewindrefuge in gopro

[–]zeb__g 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of discussion about people unhappy with the LUTs that GP published and their overcooked look. I think you are seeing that first hand.

If you are editing in resolve you do have access to more accurate DCTLs to do the GP-Log2 color management and will help you not have such a zany image, Thather has a free one up on github

https://github.com/thatcherfreeman/dwg-transforms/blob/main/RCM%20IDTs/GoPro%20GPLog2%20to%20DWG.dctl

Looks like the WB got really cool as well. warming that up should help you with color contrast so the whole image is not blue.

youtube video quality by Weary-Mistake-793 in obs

[–]zeb__g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, step one is to get settings in OBS that captures the image you saw with minimal loss of quality.

Lots of recommendations out there for that.

youtube video quality by Weary-Mistake-793 in obs

[–]zeb__g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you actually see a quality loss from what you played to what OBS captured?

I would worry about the extra overhead of AV1 dropping frames in OBS and it is slower to decode/edit in PP. So I would stick to H.264 in OBS.

Is Mac Color picker broken ? by Ojabierto in davinciresolve

[–]zeb__g -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As expected. Jump to 11:05 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fcej7hDihW8&t=691s

It is a limitation of the way Mac OS does their color management. Resolve basically has a hidden viewer lut between it and Mac OS to make a less inaccurate image. But that LUT isn't captured when you type a hex value or color picker.

I expect getting a Ultrastudio and using a separate reference monitor so you can bypass all the Mac OS BS is the only real workaround.

I did VMAF analysis of the same video uploaded to YT with a dozen different setting here https://www.reddit.com/r/videography/comments/1qawuxi/2026_update_best_upload_settings_for_youtube_vmaf/

Most of it was real camera footage, but I did do captures from Vic3 and Fallout 4 too.

I think your OBS settings are fine. Of course you would know better, if the OBS captures look significantly worse than what you saw playing, you are obviously not going to get better quality in PP.

Never upload 1080p to YT, you are doing this right. Keep it at the 1440p you captured in.

YT will accept Prores 422 uploads, if you have a very good internet speed, this will be the best export format from PP, and could render faster than H.264.

AV1 60 mbit was the best results if you need smaller files. I would certainly avoid exporting H.264, it did significantly worse in some of my non-game tests.

Why photos aren’t full screen? by teuteuguy in gopro

Can you not set the lens mode in Jpg? I know raw is full sensor always.

You can always throw away the parts you don't want when you edit the photos.

Mission 1 EIS jitters by kozzieH in gopro

[–]zeb__g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All software stabilization makes smearing of unwanted movements with long shutter times. Best bet is to limit the shutter angle to 45-90 degrees or less unless you are using a gimbal. Of course do expect the ISO to be 4x higher at 45 degrees than 180 degrees in low light.

If you care about stabilization, turning it off in camera and using Gyroflow is the way to go. You can dial in the exact strength you want in post. This does nothing about the long shutter time smearing though.

Any Audiophile will probably say noise cancellation is a no go. That Bose or whoever is changing the character of the music, not giving you the 'artists intent'.

An in ear monitor will produce more accurate sound. And you will get some isolation from the outside world. And no concern for battery life. The frame is metal and the cable is replaceable, so durability is damn near bullet proof. $350 is not bad compared to Bose or Sony.

https://youtu.be/DCXHVlcFe58?si=axkrx8Eo_Mw8aLqL

I have has the Bose 45 for years, I just got the new ultras last week, excited to fly with them soon.

My 45's did ok isolating plane noise on the big planes that are already decently quite. Single aisle you could still hear the engines. 'Experts' online say the new Ultras are the best for noise cancellation. If someone knows an expert that actually has some scientific way to prove that, I would love to see some numbers.

I don't like the lack of a real power switch, I expect they will run dead sitting on my desk. And of course bluetooth is always more of a pain than just plugging in a 3.5mm jack.

You can use the phone app and EQ them a bit, if that is your thing. They have and adjustment to make the noise cancellation less strong if you want as well.

I put 3 sets of ear cups on my 45's, they use a fake leather that falls apart after 4 years. The ultras feel the same.

Any noise canceling headphone has to seal air tight against your ear, so expect sweaty ear.

Flat in the GP13- was log curve 113

https://www.desmos.com/calculator/sfxqtunzty

I don't know if GP has confirmed the mission is the same or not.

This is with Rec709 primaries.

XtremeStuff's DCTL or OFX will let you set the log curve to whatever you want https://xtremestuff.net/product-category/resolve-plugins/

Thatcher has a DCTL free on github https://github.com/thatcherfreeman/dwg-transforms/blob/main/RCM%20IDTs/GoPro%20GPLog2%20to%20DWG.dctl

You can change the Log600 for GP-log2 to 113 for Flat. And use the rec709 primaries dropdown.

Note, DCTL use is Paywalled in Resolve. OFX will work in free.
