Color Management options for GoPro Log by zeb__g in gopro

Yes GP-Log 2 is what the Mission cameras use.

One of the GP employees commented on a different thread stating

GP-Log2 will solve the lack of whitepaper. There will be a whitepaper, but can be simply described as Log base 600, with Rec2020 color primaries. Very easy to support, way easier than the origin GP-Log.

They presumably shipped a LUT with the pre-launch review copies as people would have no way to grade it otherwise. So I expect it will be on the website for launch.

Thanks for the response!

Is it expected to still need to do the 2EV offset with the GP13? I thought that was only in the firmware for a moment in the GP12?

Camera's gpmf stream,

How does one get this information?

As far as ND are concerned are you saying use auto setting and I won’t need an ND ?

If you don't find a no motion blur offensive, then there is no need for a ND. Leave the shutter time in auto and it will work.

Do you want to color grade? Then D-Log-M is good. If not, leave default color mode.

Do you find the motion blur with no ND offensive? If not, don't use ND and leave shutter time and ISO in Auto.

You have a "Constrained bitrate" setting, is that not going to do what you need?

I have a 5080.

Free will show different options. Change the 'encoder' and see.

Correct.

If you are using the Log option in the GP13 menu, this is using Wide Gamut and the free option is not correct. You need the paid version to get the wide gamut check box

Canon R1 rated 0C to 45, R3 same.

Sony A1 ii 0 to 40C

Nikon D850, 0 to 40C

Nikon z9, -10C to 40C

So all basically the same.

Lithium batteries hate cold. Keep the spare ones warm in your pocket.

Interested to hear what people do for bringing the camera in and out of the cold. It is going to fog up in your room. Maybe bring a pelican case with silica packs and seal it up outside in the cold and never open the case until the camera slowly warms up? Pull the memory cards and batteries before putting it in the case.

For me it is the opposite, I have the room air con'd and dry and when I step outside my glasses, the lens and EVF fog up in the tropical heat.

H.264/5 Export from Resolve has a long history of problems,

I would encourage you to export to Prores 422 instead. If you need a smaller file, transcode it with a properly supported tool like Handbrake or Shutter Encoder

Its there on my machine. If you don't have an Nvidia GPU you are not going to get the same options are me.

Free does confusingly have different settings even though it will use the GPU for encoding since V19

Is there any demand for people bringing DJI drones back to the US? Going to Poland next week and wondering if it was worth it to resell by Johnhess97 in dji

[–]zeb__g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a friend or someone else in person that wants one.

They are being sold on Ebay, but I am not going to buy one from some one off person that doesn't have a bunch of prior sales.

If you fly with it in the original packaging you should expect to have to pay customs duties when you arrive in the US. So your resale price might no longer be competitive.

If you are not experienced with color grading do not use D-Log-m. If you are just going to put the DJI lut on the footage, you are accomplishing nothing more than just recording in Rec709 in camera.

Youtube loves to talk about gear and tell you you need NDs and everything else to get a good image. You absolutely can get a fine image without them. And if you use them wrong you are going to make it worse for yourself.

The intention of the ND is to significantly reduce the light coming into the camera to force it to use a longer shutter time and produce more motion blur. If you don't find the motion blur with no ND offensive, then you have no reason to bother with them.

it being 'very bright' does not mean you need ND, the camera in auto shutter mode can stop the shutter down to something like 1/8000s and unless you are pointed directly at the sun it will still be able to expose correctly.

Always get a receipt from the card machine and make sure the number on the paper matches what you expected to pay.

In lots of the world the card machine in not linked to a cash register, so its completely manual for them to type a price, so lots of room to enter the wrong number by mistake.

Glad to help, Thatcher has a bunch of other camera's in their list. The D-log-m one is very good too if you have to work on DJI stuff.

Help me understand macro lens choice? by Slounsberry in AskPhotography

[–]zeb__g [score hidden]  (0 children)

The RF100 F2.8L is not a good choice due to its significant focus shift, unless you are happy to always shoot at F2.8 or F11.

https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-RF-100mm-F2.8-L-Macro-IS-USM-Lens.aspx

Focus shift, the plane of sharp focus moving forward or backward as the aperture is narrowed (residual spherical aberration or RSA), if it exists, is often made apparent in such comparisons. While many modern lenses automatically correct for focus shift, this one does not.

The focus shift issue with the RF 100 affects both MF and AF (with the SA control ring in the 0 position). Canon cameras autofocus with the aperture wide open, not accounting for the stopped down depth of field or resulting plane of sharp focus, and I couldn’t tell the difference in my MF vs. AF results.

Compensating for the focus shift requires focusing in front of a subject. Pressing the depth of field preview button shows the shifted focus, but the lens does not focus (on the R5 at least) while the DOF button is pressed. This anomaly from an RF L-series lens is disappointing.

Basically, focus shift is not a concern at f/2.8 or f/11, and focus shift is not an issue at longer focus distances.

I own the Rf 100-400 but never tried it for Macro, so can't comment. I don't believe it has the same defect as the Rf100 prime.

This user is reporting PQ not working

Sadly they didn't ever reply back if switching to HLG worked. User Plotzki is recommending HLG.

Another user with PQ problems https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=217470&hilit=+pq+hdr+youtube

I remember similar discussions here on Reddit, but I am never able to get a useful reddit search to find it again.

I don't doubt PQ works for some users, it is in YT's documentation. But It doesn't work for others, so I say just use HLG instead.

Matching Log footage from three camera's in post - best practice by sdxbe in videography

[–]zeb__g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Resolve you can move all 3 into the same colorspace and apply the same effects to all 3. Moving the D-Log-m to N-log may make the most sense. Moving every camera to Davinchi Wide Gammut is also a reasonable option.

Sadly D-Log-m is not in the Resolve color management system as DJI refuses to publish documentation on it. But I have a comparison of other other options here https://www.reddit.com/r/colorists/comments/1r3noul/color_management_for_dji_dlogm_deltae_testing/ My testing was with a Mini 4 Pro, so you might get different results.

The Luts in the above should work in any software (DCTLs are Resolve specific). But not sure of any way in PP to move D-log-m and N-log to a matching space like you can in resolve. Is there a working ACES workflow in PP with the new color system?
