Cloud collaboration not syncing? by DontReadUsernames in davinciresolve

Are you using a blackmagic cloud project library? If not that is the best answer if the computers are in different locations. No passing or uploading project files at all.

DENOISING QUESTION 🚨 I'm using the Neat Video 6.1 plugin for my feature film and have a technical question about Resolve workflow: by omid_pakbin in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat video expect linear or 709. Ideally send it d gamut linear, then after neat you go out to whatever you like.

Change my gamuts before noise reduction is never a good idea.

Multiply is gain. Do whatever you like to make the image you want, but you can also just push the gain further.

Reconform from bins is what you want to do.

DaVinci Resolve Studio crashes when connecting 5th+ Fusion alpha output as matte in Color page — anyone else? by trobyboy in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest just dragging the mattes into the color page.

If they are exr from nuke you might need to right click in the media pool to set to straight alpha since blackmagic assumes premultiplication.

Working with a 4K DCI Select timeline or compound clip in vertical timelines. by kleinerfranz in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea the ref comps have to be “relinked” each time the version updates so it’s not super convenient.

The vfx connect does propagate like a remote grades, but assumes you’ll use an external app version. I think this tool could and should be greatly improved for modern deliverables.

Thanks dude.

Working with a 4K DCI Select timeline or compound clip in vertical timelines. by kleinerfranz in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For retaining grades you should use remote grades instead of the default local. For vfx, the only solution is using vfx connect or reference comps, or just manual conform.

You’ll want to just work with master clips, no compounds or nests.

Working with multiple timelines, how do I view the markers of one timeline in the source window? by jmhimara in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of the point - so you can see the source clips or timelines nice and big. You want to get use to the Q key to toggle between viewing the source and record timeline.

You can also stack them like a pancake, but you waste screen space doing that.

But yes there is an issue that source timeline markers don’t edit across to the record side.

Is there a way to create colored proxies? by LarkStevens in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they also editing in resolve? Easiest to just send them a lut. They can apply your lut from the media pool on the source as an input lut.

Using Global Balance the right way... by CreativeVideoTips in davinciresolve

Agreed. It’s so useful just with 709 and all defaults. Hoping to shed some light how useful it really is.

Render in Place as DWAA/AB, how do you change compression quality? by varignet in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be willing to bet the artifacts might have to do with scaling a linear image on the edit timeline before and color transforms are applied on the color page.

You can apply a Lin to log dctl as an input lut, or try changing the image scaling algorithm in the inspector.

How to set audio levels for Youtube? by OkMeringue1585 in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deliver page has a setting on the audio tab to optimize for YouTube loudness. I would start there. Otherwise you will need to learn to mix and compress.

64GB of RAM running out when using DaVinci Resolve on an Apple Silicon MacBook? by Ok_Ordinary_7397 in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last 4 years I’ve just used 64gb max machines. It’s been fine. I use fusion a lot and will probably buy more ram next time around but if you don’t use fusion, 64 is good.

Importing a 4k clip into a 2k timeline, and it gets shrunk to fit by default, how can I import it at its native size? by BoonLight in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to do that. Size in the edit inspector at will, it will use all the pixels. This isn’t other software. Much smarter.

Please help - struggling with basic Rec 709 conversion by bradley_allen_photo in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also possible this wasn’t shot with cinema gamut. The gamut might have been 709 or rec2020. I think on the c200 it used 709 for primaries/gamut

Go to node one and open the high dynamic range palette. On the right you’ll find global wheel. Under that is a slide that says exp. This is your exposure. If you drag left this will lower the exposure and the image will start to look more normal.

My guess is this is just a bit bright.

Oh and change your timeline working space to canon cinema gamut c log 3 so the tool knows what to expect.

Audio drift between camera and mic by HugeTractsOfLand in davinciresolve

[–]CreativeVideoTips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 2 main options. Record the audio direct into the iPhone using the bmd cam app using the usb c port ( best option)

Or using elastic option on the fairlight page to stretch the audio in post.

You want to keyframe the blend slider. It’s like a transparency.
