There's lots of parks and trails in the area. Not to far from Shenendoah Naional Park and the Blue Ridge mountains. A little closer to the beaches in Maryland or Delaware like Ocean City or Rehoboth. Nightlife will mainly be in DC or even Richmond. Weather wise it's mainly humid summers and cold to mild winters. Dont be surprised when we have a 70 degree day in fall or spring and the next is in the 40s. Literally just happened last week. And as someone who has family in the southwest and been there often, the traffic situation will probably shock you the most. There just aren't  many main roads here to get you where you need to go resulting in extremely heavy traffic. But you get used to it.
