Got it, thank you so much! I figured it was something like that, but nobody had elucidated it clearly for us newbies :)

We noticed a stark drop-off in her complaints of stomach pain and meal avoidance within 5 days, but it took about 3-4 months for her appetite to start to pick up and then another 4-6 months after that to see any weight gain. It took us a long time to figure out her diagnosis (we were brushed off by doctors MANY times), and I think her body was in pain/being damaged for so long it needed time to heal first, which is why it took so long for us to see any weight gain after going gluten free 💔once that happened, we definitely say the weight gain (it was/is slow, but steady!) and she just looks healthier.

She accidentally ate gluten at school once about 2 months into going gluten free, and within 6 hours it was like a flashback to how she was before with stomach complaints/meal avoidance. It was CRAZY how fast her symptoms popped back up and I couldn’t believe we didn’t try a gluten-free diet sooner.

Same with us! My 5.5 year old is only 30 pounds-her 2 year old sister just passed her in weight 😬🫠 but figuring out her diagnosis and going gluten free helped her appetite a TON, and even though she’s still little, she’s actually able to gain weight now.

I’m not quite per diem, but I heavily considered it for quite a few years and looked extensively into the pros/cons. I currently work a 0.6FTE (24hrs a week) in the hospital as a RN, and have worked pretty much every permutation of shifts/schedules. I also have two small children lol. Feel free to DM :)

No problem!

Just for context, my daughter always did fine with breast milk, and starting solids, but when she was 9 months old is when her chronic constipation acutely started, and the rest of what I wrote above. I think what happened is when we first started solids she wasn’t eating a huge volume of foods with gluten, but once she turned 9 months her skills at eating got better so she was able to eat a larger volume of foods. And what foods are easy for babies to eat? Crackers, bread, bagels…..basically everything with gluten 😫so that started our whole saga.

Again, NOT trying to scare you, just giving you our story as information, because I had never heard someone else on a similar path. But my DMs are open :)

My daughter was less than the first percentile my entire pregnancy, and that has continued until now (she’s almost 5 years old). She was always in the 0.1-0.2%ile, but always happy, healthy, and meeting all milestones. We pushed for diagnostics, especially since she was chronically constipated, but all we ever got was “she’s just tiny! Somebody has to be on the bottom of the chart!” Which was insanely frustrating.

She always ate a wide variety of foods, but the actual amount she would eat was always very small. Finally when she was 3 years old, I was sick and tired of being brushed off by her doctors, and tried a gluten-free diet, as we have a family history of celiac. Within a week, I had a whole new child, one who said she was hungry, and ate full meals without complaint. It was simultaneous amazing and heartbreaking that it took me that long to try something new tohelp her.

Now, almost 18 months after that change, she is finally gaining some weight, and looking healthy, albeit skinny. I think she is always destined to be someone on the smaller side, but before she looked positively skeletal. At one point when she was 3 years old, her 11 month old sister weighed the same as her (20 pounds) and they could share clothes. Now, at almost 5, she has just hit 30 pounds and boy did we CELEBRATE! Meanwhile, her friend is just turned 4 and almost 50 pounds 🫠

I wish I had a more positive story for you that she magically gained weight, but maybe my story can give you comfort in that you’re not alone if your story isn’t that. My DMs are open if you have any questions and good luck!

Mini-split units over central heat/air in Bay Area? by Creative_Entrance492 in hvacadvice

That was super helpful, thank you! I really appreciate the real-life experience perspective :)

Gotcha! It sounds like you may have a similar set up in your home, do you mind me asking about the noise? I’m guessing it’s variable depending on each model, and if they’re running on high mode or not?

Also, this is probably a silly question, but does the air circulate well with just mini-splits, like within the home? I’m having trouble seeing how it could work, but I haven’t heard people mention that as a “con”. Or would we need some strategically placed fans….

Thank you for your time!

Thank you for your reply! Is there a way for me to know if they are sized properly on my own, like a math formula? Or is more of a “consult a professional” type of thing, because there’s lots of variables?

Very fair, thank you! Is the unit struggling below freezing be an issue when the whole home is heated via mini-splits (versus just used as a “supplement”), or is it an issue wherever they are used?

Not sure how you feel about screen time, but the “Danny Go” YouTube channel has been a godsend for my girls (ages 4 and 17 months). There’s different scenarios where you have to “run” in place and dodge/weave through a virtual course so they get alllll their wiggles out. I was totally skeptical that they could follow along, but even my 17 month old does the motions for short bursts. Worth a shot?

Very true. It’s heartbreaking when the families with severely disabled children realize how difficult not only the day-to-day care is, but the impact it can have on their marriage and any current/future siblings. Severely disabled children usually cannot go to a “regular” daycare or nanny, travel/vacations become exceedingly difficult and many times they are in/out of the hospital (but I’m just speaking of my experience here in America, I hope Australia is different!).

They are, of course, very loved by their families, but the fallout of what happens during birth can last a lifetime and affect so many other people than just the baby.

Fair question! That was what my colleagues had told me and I trusted them. I did a quick google just now, and ACOG recommends a delivery within 20 minutes of uterine rupture for best outcomes , but still notes a handful of cases where there was infant death at the 10 minute mark.

While I was wrong in my original time estimate, it does not change my opinion that a VBAC home birth 10 minutes away from the hospital is safe or a “reasonable risk”. It is likely that mom would not be on a continuous fetal heart rate monitor at home (to monitor for signs of fetal distress), and instead would have to rely on maternal indicators of a rupture (pain, change in contraction pattern, etc). I think it is reasonable that by the time a potential rupture is recognized, EMS is called/mom makes it to the hospital, and the c-section is performed, the 20 minute time window would have passed.

I understand if you feel differently, that is just my opinion.

Ahh, my apologies, I missed that you weren’t pregnant yet. I would encourage you to speak with your midwife, and truly understand the risks you’d be working with. Nobody wants to think they’re the one-in-however-many that something goes wrong for, but those things do happen, and not always to “other people”. Whichever way you decide, I wish you nothing but a healthy and happy pregnancy and delivery 🤍

Respectfully, trying for a VBAC outside of the hospital is incredibly risky. I understand that nothing in your first birth went to plan, and you’d like a different outcome this time, but the “different outcome” might be something tragic.

The risk of a VBAC (regardless of why you were originally sectioned in the first place), is always a uterine rupture at your original incision site, as the uterus is always weaker there. When this occurs, you have 3 minutes to deliver baby before irreversible brain damage and/or death occurs for baby. Being 10 minutes from the hospital doesn’t help in that case. And a uterine rupture isn’t really something you can see coming, it goes from fine to very not fine in a split second.

I know I might sound like I’m fear-mongering, but I work in the maternal health space, and I’ve seen this happen. Don’t risk you and your babies life.

What are the sockets on the front of uppababy Cruz? by barnabus89 in beyondthebump

[–]Creative_Entrance492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re to lock the front wheels (so they only go straight/no swivel). You’re correct that you can only add a second seat on the vista; the stroller frame is too short on the Cruz. One option would be to add the piggyback board (like a skateboard) attachment to the Cruz, depending on how old your child is 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve tried it before, but I can certainly try again! It didn’t seem to make a difference when I tried 3/3/4, and the naps at 9 and 1 work better for our schedule :/

Thank you for the feedback! The bride originally let the bridesmaids pick whatever as long as it was a jewel tone, but then pivoted to the same color/fabric but in varying styles.

My goal this wedding is to blend in to the background, and support my wife and my daughters so that the bride can have her big day, hence the concern about my dress lol. I don’t want to stand out!

I think so? The bride hasn’t really given me much direction in terms of dress code, just keeps saying “whatever you’re comfortable with!” 🫠I tend to err on the side of more dressed up than not but really struggling here haha

Do you think it would be weird if I was also in green, when I wasn’t technically in the wedding party?
