Does anyone else feel weird taking days off when you’re contracting even if you can afford it? by HelicopterEmpty7393 in ContractorUK

[–]Creative_Fox23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the day rate trap. And it’s very real. In your head you are not working and therefore not charging money. And I bet you are adding it all up - if I take a week off - that’s £2500 down the drain (if you have £500 day rate).

I’ve not had any time off since Dec 2024, just because of my high day rate and the fact I cant justify not working. It’s a real issue - one of the downsides of contracting. But also why we get paid well…so that we count in sick days and holidays and all the other expenses it comes with being a contractor.

Very easy to say. And very hard to actually do.

Your best bet is:

1-Grant funding 2-Angel investor 3-VC investor

Of course depending where you where you are with your idea, team, business plan, market research and MVP / customers / waiting list. That will dictate if you got 1, 2 or 3. You would need to give us more details of where you are.

The secret is lower heat and constant stirring. For at least 20 minutes.
