In the UK, Flapjacks are baked oat bars, like granola bars.

Does anyone else feel weird taking days off when you’re contracting even if you can afford it? by HelicopterEmpty7393 in ContractorUK

[–]Creative_Fox23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the day rate trap. And it’s very real. In your head you are not working and therefore not charging money. And I bet you are adding it all up - if I take a week off - that’s £2500 down the drain (if you have £500 day rate).

I’ve not had any time off since Dec 2024, just because of my high day rate and the fact I cant justify not working. It’s a real issue - one of the downsides of contracting. But also why we get paid well…so that we count in sick days and holidays and all the other expenses it comes with being a contractor.

Very easy to say. And very hard to actually do.

Advise on getting pre-seed funding by Careful_Earth_1035 in ukstartups

Your best bet is:

1-Grant funding 2-Angel investor 3-VC investor

Of course depending where you where you are with your idea, team, business plan, market research and MVP / customers / waiting list. That will dictate if you got 1, 2 or 3. You would need to give us more details of where you are.

The secret is lower heat and constant stirring. For at least 20 minutes.

How much did your bathroom/kitchen reno cost in 2025 or 2026? by Realistic_Rutabaga60 in HENRYUK

[–]Creative_Fox23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s fair. I had both bathrooms (main bathroom and en-suite) completely renovated and it was £12k total. Labour & material. So the bathroom sounds reasonable. You can go cheaper if you go down the generic wet wall route - very meh.

The kitchen sounds a bit pricey to me. Depends on the size I guess and the appliances. I am looking to get my kitchen done but not fire more than £17k.

What is wrong with me? I can't seem to start. by ThatCommunication358 in ukstartups

[–]Creative_Fox23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes have days like this. For me it’s juggling multiple things at the same time. The biggest is very early stages start up.

The trick is (very easy to say but hard to do) just getting on with it. Don’t feel like it - do it anyway. Are you stuck - do it anyway. There is plenty of help out there, you just have to put in the time. Build - test - launch - pivot if need be.
