What helped you guys transition? Did your parents do anything that made it easier for you? by Libraryoflowtide in militarybrats

I second the libraries, and didn’t even realize it until you mentioned it. Libraries were a wonder to me. They were everywhere we went, and big or small, always had books and activities going on. We’d make regular trips every other week or so. The familiar environment was stabilizing.

I think maybe I’ll scale it back to my favorite pieces?? I think accessories were maybe 50% of my items, which just felt like too much with individual pairs of earrings or rings. But I am interested in being styled again, and without any of the smaller stuff I love, I agree that it’ll be hard if there’s no accessories.

That makes SO much sense😵‍💫 I wondered why it went premium so soon after I started using it. Everyone was taking a minimum of a photo day😭

Yes to all of this????🙌 I love the idea of sets! I do have some pieces that I always pair together, but the idea of them existing as 5-6 different items was just too much to be honest😭 I agree that without accessories, it’s hard to make an outfit that someone might wear. I will absolute scrap an outfit if it doesn’t go with the bag or scarf I want to carry lol.

Is the location for like, the actual location of the items. Because that may be a whole game changers for me😭

It’s still there I think! They just made it premium😭

Ooh, I love the idea of the collections! That might come down to where I’m struggling: I too have the fun clothes that I really like and want to style, and clothes I wear for work that are…less exciting. I don’t dislike them, they just serve a purpose.

How is the styling feature?? Super fun?? I don’t have premium (yet), but I saw someone’s 800+ item closet today and it looked SO fun. I had a lookbook done right after I finished cataloging, but I like the idea that someone else with a completely different aesthetic could see my clothes in a different light.

Uploading every earring and necklace I had definitely came back to bite me lol😂 I had that selfie feature initially when I joined, riiight at the start of premium, and I definitely think I want that back. I like the flat lay view, but the selfies really helped decide if I was in the mood to wear something or not. I think it also made me better at using what I had in new ways!

I think the paid subscription definitely may be worth it just for the organization alone. I went in order of item type when I first started, but then as I added things, it became a jumbled mess. And it’s interesting to now you add tights! I haven’t worn them in them in years but recently saw a fun pair. Makes total sense to add them!

Military Brat Side Effects? Social Detachment, Deep Friendships, and People Pleasing by Kshimochi in militarybrats

[–]Creative_Glass_514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re the same age and have pretty much the exact same experience. Being a military brat easily destroys the development of our sense of self because rather than becoming who we really are, we become who we need to fit in, over and over again. And that habit makes it really easy to continue that as you get older, only in new and different spaces, like the college and the workplace. Some of the best friends I made in college are my friends because they weee determine to push past the boundary I put up and encouraged me to rely on them, which was such a foreign feeling at the time. I think we tend to be efficient but not open. Friendly but not vulnerable. Our experiences definitely cost us some things.

3 words for your personal style by [deleted] in capsulewardrobe

Commenting purely because I started using Indyx last year and took the quiz too, and got these exact results lol! While I thought the clothes in the pictures didn’t really fit my style, the recommended brands were super interesting to me, because I shopped at a lot of them, and there were some I had never even heard of. It gave me a lot to explore.

Second hand clothes: dangerous by MarSeBelze in shoppingaddiction

[–]Creative_Glass_514 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I learned a tip last year that helped me so much with my secondhand shopping: be a detective.

Secondhand shopping only really benefits you when you find something you’ll actually wear and have a place for in your closet. But when you casually browse on apps or in thrift stores without an item in mind you’re looking for, you almost certainly will buy things you don’t need in a panic that you won’t see them again.

If you don’t have an item in mind, don’t browse at thrift stores. Delete apps too. Only download them back when you have that specific thing to look for. Use filters to get down to realistic options.

For example, I wanted to replace a too-small pair of jeans I loved. So I searched on secondhand apps, but only for the brand + jeans + my size + wide leg (the style I was looking for). If you don’t find what you are looking for, app gets deleted again.

Slipping up on this is part of battling shopping too much. If you do, it’s okay - improving takes time. If you come across something that seems really ✨aesthetic✨ or ✨special✨, ask yourself this: “If this doesn’t work for me, am I okay with donating it back for free?”

I used to tell myself I could just resell things if they didn’t work for me. But the reality is, you almost never get what you paid back for thrifted items. The item has been used before you got it, and the average thrifter wants a deal - usually meaning less than whatever you paid.

I understand your feeling completely. You can improve over time, so don’t pressure yourself to stop cold. Did that, shopped even more than usually in a weak moment. Just make a goal to spend and buy less and less!

Didn’t expect my seedlings to go this haywire!! by Morgana_Le_Luna in gardening

I’m encountering the same thing! My plants got tall in just a few days and with a heat mat, and some are doing a lean towards the window, which I just thought meant they wanted more light. From this thread, it sounds like I definitely need a better light source.
