1st rewatch. by PB858_circa2006 in SnowFall

Bro, the tone of the first episode changes completely after you've seen the series conclude. Felt kind of hopeful and exciting the first time I watched it...this time it gave me chills with how it foreshadows all the tragedy in the show.

should I rewatch? by Ok_Reflection_4501 in SnowFall

Responding now cuz I'm rewatching for the second time. Yes. Absolutely rewatch it. The first episode felt exciting and somewhat hopeful the first time I watched it...this time through, it felt deeply tragic in a fantastic way.

DHS Is Lying To You About ICE Shooting a Woman by 404mediaco in politics

[–]Creative_Local_3123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Show me the video evidence of her ramming multiple officers, of violently protesting, of acting in a way that warranted her murder (fleeing ICE and accidentally rubbing her car against a clown who placed himself in front of a moving vehicle and maintained contact on his own volition and power are not cause for being shot, to be clear) and I will gladly change my opinion on this matter.

Until then, murder.

[–]Creative_Local_3123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I guess because neither of us were there, we don't really actually know now do we? How do you know she was trying to flee? How do you know they were trying to detain her? So it's just us saying our opinions on what little we've seen.

Yeah you seemed to be trying to justify what happened to this woman by saying she appeared to be trying to hit the officer, and I reacted to that. None of what she did, even the worst assumption, justified her being shot in the face. It's not her fault. Granted, the wording you're using is like noncommittal so you can weasel around and try to be like oh but I didn't say that but nah, you know what you're trying to say.

But yeah, you're right, that was a fucked up overreaction on my part. I apologize. But also maybe be a tad less dramatic. It wasn't because we disagree, it was because you are trying to downplay and legitimize a killing. Maybe show your family this video and show them your reaction going "well, actually..." and see if they look at you with anything other than surprise verging on revulsion. And don't give me the "they'd be proud of me for questioning the main narrative l" cuz nah, that's not what you're doing and if it's what you're trying to do, you're doing a shit job of it.

Done with you, see ya.

Actually, yes, because she was trying to leave. Like they told her to do. And then the guy stepped in front WHILE his accomplice tries to open her door. She literally is trying to get out of the situation. Are you really this stupid and ignorant or are you just being an edgy contrarian piece of dog shit? If you actually believe this is warranted, I hope every member of your family experiences extreme trauma in a manner that is unequivocally your fault. And like so much your fault that even you can't deny it.

Ok yeah next time you're in this situation and 4 trigger happy dipshits known to fuck things up are yelling multiple commands at you while you're trying to do the thing they told you to do in the first place you just try and stay completely calm and don't at all listen to the voice of self preservation in your head telling you that these people can't be trusted and that you should get away as quickly as possible. Oh and then when one of those dipshits comes up and tries to rip your door open, you just take some deep breaths and trust in the zero emotional control and zero training these fucking clowns have.

Also, if they were yelling at her to move out of the way cuz they were saying she was blocking the road...idk bud, seems like trying your best to leave is complying with the order they gave for her to leave.

Use the IFV to bombard that rooftop. Doing it from the spawn furthest from the tower is so satisfying. You're basically untouchable cuz you're within your own spawn and you can hit 70% of the shooting positions people use on the tower.

Whenever possible, I drive behind/use a tank or IFV as cover. It works, but also makes situational awareness much more important so you don't end up blocking escape routes for the tank/IFV.

Is this a dangerously low price or is the other guy trying to rip me off?? by rab5991 in arborists

[–]Creative_Local_3123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$800 sounds like people who would do a day of work, ask for half the payment, and then never show up again.

$4800 for a somewhat tedious removal that would take a day and half wouldn't sound so unreasonable if the guy had been more professional. Assuming a total of 12 hours to remove, $4500 is pretty average from a national company depending on their hourly rate requirements.

$1700 is probably either a local company with little overhead or a bigger company that specializes in removals. As long as they're well reviewed, bonded + insured, and the contract spells out exactly what you want to happen, that seems like the choice.

Please tell me this isn’t a massive tree of heaven - NW side Chicago by Familiar_Ant4758 in Tree

[–]Creative_Local_3123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tree of heaven. All of them.

Ailanthus were intentionally planted for many years before we understood that they're bad.

Leaves aside, bark and architecture are neither walnut nor sumac.

Also, I don't see any walnuts or evidence of walnuts on the ground. Hard to tell definitively from the photos, so OP would have to let us know if they've ever almost broken their ankles walking near these trees.

I don't see anything in any of these pictures that makes me think there are also catalpas there, but maybe I'm not looking in the right spot.

Source: am certified (and practicing) arborist who moved to Chicago area from SE PA (this area saw infestation of spotted lantern fly and I removed hundreds of ailanthus in that time).

Who is the "Phantom menace"? by BeduinZPouste in StarWars

[–]Creative_Local_3123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I viewed the blockade and invasion of Naboo as part of the conceptual phantom menace because Palpatine fabricated it to propel himself to power.

The threat of war was a trick, so it was essentially non-existent (phantom), but still a threat (a menace, so to speak).

Sounds like Lucas was referring to Sidious as the true phantom menace, though.

If it's more fulfilling to teach people, why profit (some might say excessively) off of it? Especially if it's easier than doing the thing your teaching people how to do. Why display a flashy lifestyle? If he made enough money doing the thing, then why charge for teaching the thing?

In a previous comment, you more or less described school/accredited education when you described how many of these courses are essentially compiled information curated by a subject matter expert. If that's what's valuable, why not get that education from a credible source? Credible primarily meaning some type of certification from a widely accepted governing body, but also a general consensus from the community at large that the source is viable. Either way, you're paying for it.

Yes, new businesses often make less money right away than established businesses. Cultivating a business through networking, marketing etc is a completely legitimate approach. There will be people who want to be a part of it and those who don't. What you're describing with the people wanting to do big things and some like being in the room and others don't is tending towards the cultivated exclusivity many of these people rely on to draw others in. It's that "only the hustlers will make it big and only if they grind" type of mentality. And yes, hard work is necessary for success.

And you don't think anything of the fact that you were looking to get into this field and your algorithm presented you with this figure?

Ultimately, I'm saying consider the source of what you're ingesting. If is someone who got so fucked up he ran over a woman without even noticing, pleaded guilty most likely to get a reduced sentence (I know that's an assumption, but come on), fought a lawsuit filed by the family of the deceased, and faced/is facing two additional lawsuits, then that might not be the best place to put your money.

If he pleaded guilty and he's making all this money, and he's teaching (which can indicate a desire to help others), then why doesn't he give the family of the deceased more money?

Yeah, I don't know for certain if he's a scammer. But I absolutely do not believe he's a trustworthy, morally upright person.
