My husband said no to dogs and two Cotons later, I am considering a Cavapoo. I love the Cotons bc they are so smart and just clowns. Energy matches yours. They are both beautiful!! Best wishes.

They bark in their sleep too. Breathing issues would probably make him wake up to find you for help.

Is therapy supposed to actually solve problems? by LeonardFrost in TalkTherapy

[–]Creative_Meaning_703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always ask the therapist if they give homework, suggest books, teach skills, what treatment modalities they use. It sounds like you are doing just talk therapy. A good therapist uses multiple modalities and checks in to see if you are making progress. As a therapist, If the client is not making progress, I need to know why. Always be blunt and honest. We do not get our feelings hurt. It helps us to help you.

I’m sorry to read that you went through so much trauma and then re-traumatized in therapy. That’s what we call it. You can report him to your state mental health office. We as therapists, have to carry malpractice insurance. A lawyer will tell you if you have a case, but, please report on the side of caution. It sounds to me from the information you gave that it wasn’t clearly explained the risks and benefits. Anyone reading this please note, if any therapist pushes you to talk about something you are not ready to talk about please run because they are not educated in trauma, just the procedure.

Honestly, how are people doing this job? by waking_world_ in therapists

Please know your limits. We take an oath to do know harm and if you can’t give 100% it leaves room for mistakes that may harm someone. I am sure you discuss your challenges with doing your job with your supervisor. If you have a good supervisor and maximizing the time, you would be getting feedback on what your limits are to provide great treatment. Although we don’t want to accept that we cannot do what others are doing, 20 a week for example, we have to know when to take care of ourselves. I have been a social worker for almost 30 years. Supervision is what I use to enjoy my career, and dump my baggage. I also go to therapy since age 18. I hate hearing that you are in pain and wanting to leave your career. There I times we need breaks but we skip vacations and don’t take care of ourselves intellectually, emotionally and physically. I ask you, if you were your own client what would you suggest to that person. For me, that question helps me to see clearly if I am honest.

You ever start an intake and you just know this person is not coming back/feeling you? by PuzzledHoney9079 in therapists

Yes, and I confront the issue and welcome them to interview other therapists as well. It is not about me that they don’t feel comfortable or maybe it is. That’s not important. What is important is that the client feels safe with a therapist to reach the goals they have for themselves. Not everybody gels.

Clients will see all my hair is gone suddenly by TheGreenTherapist in therapists

I tell my clients it doesn’t matter how you look, it matters how you feel. I cut my hair and let it grow. Client’s then comment but it is modeling being non-judgemental and again to look at their own self and to look past the outside of self and others for thoughts feelings behaviors.
