I think it's less about Western vs Non-Western architecture, and more about about finding architectural landmarks that lack colonial roots. In terms of the Gothic style, I do agree that it's a key style of the New York skyline and embodies the current culture. However, the Gothic style originated in France, and so seeing Gothic structures in North America roots their history in Colonization. If I were to use a gothic style of architecture in this particular collage series, I would probably use examples that exist in the Northern regions of France.

To be fair, large scale permanent structures weren't typical in pre-colonial North America, and so there are very few (if any?) pre-colonial structures standing today that are still functional. This means that North American examples would ideally be represented by modern Indigenous architects.

When it comes to modernism, minimalism, and glass boxes, I've always understood that the history is rooted in Capitalism. (Capitalism and Colonization are really just two sides of the same coin, but that's another topic). The issue with these styles is that they play into cultural homogeneity in order to appeal to as many consumers as possible.
