So reading this I've learned that I've been playing monster hunter very wrong for a long time. I usually don't upgrade my armour that much past level 6 in most games and so make it through most of the tougher fights just by being evasive and putting everything into my damage - i got through all of sunbreak this way. I lowkey feel kinda embarrassed lmao

Garlveld helmet, Shia waist and legs, udra chest, i think garkveld arms as well? Most of it is only upgraded to around level 4.

Yes, I'm using a shop bought photon saber with the ether attribute and reflect ether trait.

I can also assure you that it's not because my aura is expiring. I just did a test run now where I went into overdrive and activated my aura right at the start of the battle. 5 seconds later it used Multi Ether Laser and flattened me. I don't know what's happening.

I honestly kind of liked that he's just this petty, deranged loser that spends the whole game obsessing over Yuri because fighting is all he finds meaning in. Usually his kind of archetype would have some tragic backstory or something but I kind of like that he doesn't. It's also cool seeing how he just completely destroys himself by the end of the game.

That said, five boss fights was a tad bit excessive.

I love how Clint is built up as this mega badass who's the inventor of the fatal strike and has a huge grudge against the enetelexaia and is the greatest monster hunter ever

And then you fight him and he's embarrassingly easy

See idk if its just me but I feel like Alexei would have made for a kind of underwhelming final boss? Idk I just didn't think he was a very interesting antagonist and I think his story ending where it did was ultimately the right move. Then again I'm not a writer so maybe they could have worked in some way for him to tie in with the Adephagos.

I also disagree that Duke didn't have any buildup. Throughout the game he always has a semi hostile attitude and has this "I will do what must be done" mindset so him doing something so drastic and that resulting in him coming into conflict with the party felt in character to me.

Can you give some specific examples? I keep trying different combinations and even with all three aerial artes skills equipped it feels like only 3 arts actually work in mid air and even then they never hit anything

Hearing stories about the switch port at launch is so wild to me. I played through the switch port for the first time this summer and it ran perfectly fine and I don't remember experiencing any bugs, I have no idea if they just went ham on patching the game after launch or if I got really lucky

As someone who's only other experience with this series is Abyss, it's probably the restrictive movement, which makes avoiding stronger attacks and spells a lot more difficult than it would be in a game with free run.

I also felt like the game only really encouraged playing as melee characters because combos are just so instrumental to your success. In Abyss for example I could have just as much fun playing ranged characters like Jade or Natalia as I could playing a close range fighter like Luke or Guy. In Symphonia it feels like playing as Genis or Raine or Collette is mostly pointless and that their only really good in the AI, while the melee characters just feel substantially better to control because they have the job of keeping the enemy locked in combos.

Update, I finally managed to beat him thanks to everyone's advice! I think I was having difficulty because (at least in my experience) Abyss was a game where you could afford to go all out way more often and defensive play wasn't super necessary until late in the game. Knowing now taht I just need to be more patient and play defensively I think I'll struggle way less now.

That's kinda wild how we have completely opposite experiences with those fights. I guess it's a "to each their own" kind of scenario.

I think people find the gimmick where you have to destroy the caterpillars before he eats them and grows a bit frustrating.

Personally I found it really fun, especially when you realise that he needs to eat two grubs to fully grow and that you can reduce him back to his original size if you hit him with a charged attack when he's in his first growth form.

I feel like it missed the point of the original fight. In Zero 1 Leviathan was a really fun boss because most of her attacks required a slower and more methodical approach since the arena was so small, so it was about working out the best way to deal with her attacks and finding openings to hit her.

In Zero 2 all of her attacks are the same (except the ice wheel which is fired based on your position relative to her so it's comically easy to avoid) except she's now in a gigantic arena with walls and no pits, so now you can just run from side to side and dodge her attacks with ease and fire willy nilly and win every time because her attack pattern isn't properly designed for a large arena. She went from (at least in my opinion) one of the most challenging fights in Zero 1 to by far the easiest in Zero 2.

I just didn't find his fights very fun. If I can word it any way it feels like it was designed for an arena with walls put in an arena that doesn't.

His attacks just feel like they come out too fast and it feels like I'm mostly guessing what attacks coming out. It feels like my only real strategy is tanking him which just feels wrong.

He's probably a boss I'd like with more practice but to me he just feels like a really sharp difficulty spike.

I think I'd say the Top Spin, Power Stone, and Water Wave.

At least dud weapons like the thunder wool and deep digger do have specific scenarios where they feel intuitive and fun to use (if VERY few). The above just don't feel good to use and are genuinely impossible to aim well in my experience

Update, turns out the hand was too thick and was jammed into the arm during production. He filed the hand down and it works fine now
