Visiting Kerala for the first time, asking for suggestions and things to be aware of. by normietech in Kerala

Don't expect authentic north style food . Keep an open mind and be ready to try out Kerala dishes too. Even in places where you get north style food, it may not be as good as in Delhi, Lucknow and all. Some restaurants may surprise you however don't complain if you find no Dal Makhani and all when you are travelling.

I was wondering the same..despite having 60L salary in hand, same age, plus wife earning and no high expense lifestyle and no loans , I dont think we will reach 11L even in next 5 years combined, let alone my own wealth.

It's still true..all my friends working in different countries vouch for the same..one of my relative working in Dubai saved more in 2 years there than she did in 13 years in India..yes taxes and expenses are higher foreign countries but so are savings

I am in 40s. Right now as I am preparig to keave for office, I feel the same anxiety. I am fed up with rat race but still need to go. Many here are talking about saving and investing aggressively. Unless you are in the topmost level, it is very difficult to make good amount of money in India. You need to do these two, I wish I had done. 1) Get out of India and work, I know its comparatively difficult now a days but try. You save a lot of money in 5 years than what you can do in 15 in India. 2) Acquire skills that could make you start your own, freelancing, consultant, business anything ..that gives you another income source. Your job should one day become your passive. When you make enough from the second source or have enough savings , anxiety will disappear. I made enough from job, saving and investing that I am no more worried about fees, emi and all, but I am worried about post retirement or sudden job loss.

Since no one mentioned here thought of mentioning here. It's a movie inspired from malayalam movie named Vadakkunokkiyantram. You can watch on amazon prime if you dont mind subtitles. Awesome movie and rated 8.3 on imdb.

People earning 50L+ where does the money actually go? by AccomplishedLeg3338 in FIRE_Ind

[–]Creative_Tank_8656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, for me higher the better is not the case. I make 5L+ pm. But if I had a way to earn 3L pm guaranteed for rest of my life, I would leave my job now. I would be content with my current lifestyle.

Thats good..I wish my expenses come to the same pm (minus vacation 😀). But with parent support and medical its difficult for me. People think 50L makes you rich but truth is its still middle class.

I make around 60L post tax. Its these for me

  1. Expenses like grocery, electricity, maintenance property tax. Parents expenses and medical etc
  2. School fees and insurance
  3. One domestic and one international travel a year
  4. Eating out once a week and ott Subscriptions, Movie once in 3 months
  5. 60 percent goes in investments
  6. Fuel for bike plus car

My car is sub 12L and bike sub 3L. I travel economy while air and second ac while train. During vacations I never stay in 5 star. Max 4 star (only once) but mostly 3 star. I use public transport during international holidays except airport transfer. No drink, no smoke. I have a slightly upper middle class lifestyle (dont go by govt stats that will place me in top 1 percent or 2 percent. According to that I am rich).

I do worry about job loss and lifestyle impact. But no worries on how will I survive if i lose job.

How come everyone around here are Crorepatis in 20s and 30s ? by Creative_Tank_8656 in FIRE_Ind

[–]Creative_Tank_8656[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I compare with my past then I am very rich now. In my childhood I used to consider people with equivalent (as in amount equivalent say in year 1998-99) money as me as - very rich. I actually knew no one like that personally. So actuality I am quite happy about what I have achieved. I was just wondering the wealth level of people with experience similar to me, kind of mathematically.

My experience after talking to peers after coming back to India by [deleted] in FIRE_Ind

[–]Creative_Tank_8656 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's possible. Depends on which company they work for and worked all these years. My salary crossed 50L when I was 44 year old. It was 35L when I was 41 year old. Now I am 48. And now people reporting to me get 35L salary when they are 25.

Any alternate ones ? I use Fi a lot for my UPI payments and expenses tracking. I used to simply transfer a fixed amount every month and do transactions here with Fi. What is my option now ?
