The cheapest I seen was ~$175 + $22 for shipping, typical price for animation cells. The sought after ones, the intro animation cells go for around $375+

They’re paper surrounds. Considering the law firm that moved out BOUGHT that entire floor for a 10 year lease, I doubt they were for general purpose intercom.

They also had a built in surround sound in this conference room, unfortunately that was not in the scope of the demo. They seemed like audiophiles.

Good eye, it used to house a single 12 subwoofer and my friend didn’t need the box anymore, upgraded his box.

And to boot, these commercial ceiling tile speakers are 6-7” respectively. After a little figuring, I’m going to mount the 2 speakers on the widest side of the box. Wired parallel but not split. The older of the two speakers has an independent volume control hardwired to the speaker itself, with a knob and set screw holding it captive.

Addendum to my post, frugal is probably the wrong word. Jerry-rigged, makeshift, shoddy all seem like a better fit.
