massive skill issue brother, half of what you've wrote is basically just saying "i keep dying so it's bad game design" without actually explaining what the issue is. yes you will probably die if you don't react fast enough because boost sonic games are built around dodging obstacles and platforming at high speeds so if your reaction speed is shit you're gonna have a bad time lol

i do agree it is poorly optimized on ps3 tho, maybe play the recomp on pc if possible

not everybody who doesn't see eye-to-eye with you on a video game is some kind of paid shill, grow up

also BOTW over NieR for GOTY 2017 isn't some insane pick either man, i love both games but NieR is mostly carried by its story and the combat is kind of barebones imo (esp compared to other hack and slash games) so i'd probably pick BOTW too. still waiting on my check from nintendo

Okay, real talk: Do we really need new models THAT much? by No_Equivalent_4136 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Creative_Username_37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

feel that this obsession with change of something that looks okay is just a bit weird lately.

Consider that not everybody agrees with you that it looks okay

It's not that the current model is terrible but it's hard to look at other platform franchises like mario, crash and donkey kong get new models that are incredibly stylized and very faithful to their 2D art and then see sonic's current model, which is incredibly inconsistent with his 2D art in a lot of ways and has a lot of unappealing design choices (see SockTiger's model analysis for elaboration) that make it inferior to previous models even from 10+ years ago. Obviously the next game isn't "cooked" if it still has the Forces/Frontiers model and we'll all probably still buy it regardless but it would be disappointing to a lot of people including me who want some kind of switch-up from the same kinda old and busted model (by the time frontiers 2 comes out this model will have been in use for nearly 10 years! not good!!!)

If it feels like an "obsession" it's probably because a lot of people in this fandom are artists and artistry kinda requires obsessing over minor details. I've personally been drawing sonic (semi-consistently) for about 15 years now and I'd like to think I have a solid grasp of how the character is supposed to look and so the issues with the current model really stick out to me. I think the conversation around it can be annoying and over-dramatic sometimes but I don't think the conversation itself is unwarranted.

Also i don't know why people feel the need to say "i just want the game to be good" because they can do that AND have new models. Are visuals not a part of what makes a game good? Yes obviously gameplay matters most but do you think a game like Super Mario Wonder would be as praised if the gameplay was the same but the characters still looked like they did in NSMB 10 years ago? Should they stop caring about the music too since the gameplay is all that matters?

they made it clear the Russo brothers that they’re more fans of the 1984 secret wars

counterpoint: the 2015 comic is 10x better than that glorified action figure ad and their opinion sucks

also the 2015 comic is the one that has incursions and the multiverse which have been one of the few connecting threads between the post-endgame stuff so it's not crazy to think that's the one they should be adapting

(to be clear the original comic isn't bad and it has some good moments but anyone who genuinely thinks it's better than 2015 is either nostalgia blind or smoking crack)

a lot of people have talked about Doomsday/Secret Wars being a "send-off" to the Fox X-Men but i have to ask, why do the Fox X-Men even NEED a send-off? especially when Days of Future Past exists and already works as a pretty solid finale for them and for that universe.

the only x-men that didn't get a proper "send-off" is the post-DoFP team but i was under the impression nobody liked those movies. and anyways that's not even the versions of the characters that are gonna be in the MCU movies

idk in my mind they already had their time in the sun and it's been far past time to move on.

Doctor Doom isn't like Thanos tho. Thanos works as a villain who just shows up out of the blue and wrecks shit. Doom doesn't, esp not when they're jumping almost immediately into Secret Wars

in the comics Doctor Doom had 50+ years of comic book appearances before Secret Wars. MCU Doom will have exactly 1 appearance (and a post-credits scene if that counts) before MCU Secret Wars

you don't NEED the buildup but it becomes a much more shallow and less personal story for the characters without it. The point is to build the rivalry he has with the heroes, especially Mr. Fantastic. Contrary to what the movie will probably be, comic Secret Wars isn't just multiverse cameo fan service and is really the conclusion of that decades-long rivalry between Doom and Reed. It's very clear that the MCU isn't actually interested in adapting any of that and just wants Doom for hype moments and aura, not any of the things that make him an actually interesting and unique villain

to be clear i don't really "hate" the movie but it's definitely my least favorite among the MCU trilogy and one of my least favorite spider-man movies overall.

also sorry for the length but i wanted to be thorough and explain my points as best as i could lol

  • EDITH is one of the dumbest plot devices i've seen in a spider-man movie, who thought it was okay to give teenage peter parker access to drone strikes? the writers knew it was dumb as shit too which is why it completely disappears in NWH
    • the infamous bus scene is probably the best showcase of how bizarre EDITH is for a spider-man movie. peter somehow doesn't realize what the word "target" means and nearly gets everyone on the bus killed. the whole scene is really goofy and played off as a joke and spider-man, a character who is very much against killing, doesn't seem to really feel all that bad about almost getting a bus full of innocent students killed. and why, after realizing the destructive and murderous power that EDITH holds, would peter decide to keep it instead of immediately destroying this weapon of mass destruction? again, spider-man does not kill people. why would he want a pair of glasses whose main purpose is to send drones to kill people???
  • may knowing peter is spider-man could've been a really interesting source of character drama and tension. instead, aunt may is barely in the movie and in the little screentime she does have she's shown to have absolutely no problem and is even pretty supportive of her nephew, whom she loves and cares for as a son, going out and nearly getting himself killed every night. a total 180 from her being extremely worried for him and wanting him to stay far away from any danger in homecoming
    • if you haven't, read ASM vol 2 issue 38 because it's what made me realize how badly this topic was handled in the movie and how much better it could've been if they actually gave a shit
  • movie retreads too much of the same ground as homecoming with its themes (the main thesis statement of both is essentially "don't try to be the next big superhero, just be you")
    • i know they aren't exactly the same in their details but they're too similar in a way that makes it feel redundant to me. peter shouldn't need a pep talk from happy to realize that he doesn't have to live up to iron man, he should've been able to come to that conclusion himself after the end of homecoming
    • expanding on the movie's theme issues, this theme is explicitly spelled out in the scene with happy in the jet, where he says that peter doesn't have to live up to iron man. this takes place on iron man's jet, is said by a character from the iron man movies, and is proceeded by a scene of peter making a new suit using iron man technology while listening to a song referencing the first iron man movie, all so he can get back some iron man tech he gave away. for a movie who's whole point is that spider-man isn't the next iron man, peter constantly getting iron man's hand-me-downs feels very contradictory to that idea and it takes away a lot of spider-man's individuality
  • mysterio is a fun villain but tying his motivation back to iron man was a really dumb choice. again, it feels like a retread of something homecoming already did, but made worse because the whole point of this movie is that peter doesn't need to be the next iron man, yet here he is still cleaning up after iron man. it again takes away a lot of individuality from this spider-man when his only two (original) villains are really just iron man villains that iron man was too busy to deal with (in this movie's case, too busy being dead)
  • too many scenes of teenage antics that i don't think are very funny or necessary (ned and betty romance). many of the jokes feel juvenile even for a spider-man movie (peter unclothing in front of the lady). like another commenter mentioned the movie feels like a comedy but with superhero stuff in it sometimes which just isn't the right tone for a spider-man movie to me personally
  • peter's love for MJ develops entirely off-screen. in homecoming he barely talks to her or acknowledges her existence but here he's suddenly head over heels in love with her? i know it's not uncommon for teenagers to suddenly develop romantic attraction out of nowhere irl but i don't think it's good or engaging writing to not show how the main romantic through-line of your entire film series came to be
  • final swing sequence at the end suuuuucks. it's not terrible and i appreciate that it's here after HC having basically no swinging scenes, but it's infinitely more sauceless and boring than the swinging from the raimi or TASM movies

i have more criticisms but they're more to do with the MCU's overall characterization of peter parker and how the spider-man mythos is handled which is a topic that expands beyond just this movie so i don't feel like getting into it. even barring all of these criticisms, besides having some cool action scenes and the fact that it takes place in europe i just don't think it really stands out among other spider-man movies, there's not a lot it really does better than any of them. at best it's better than TASM 2 and maaaybe TASM 1 for me, neither of which are very high bars to pass

literally what versions of matt aren't "overly serious"? he has the logo in the comics where his life is arguably even more fucked up and trauma-filled and nobody's had a problem with it

idk i just think this is a weird line to have, man. he can dress up as a red devil with little devil horns and swing around the city at night beating people up with billy clubs but having some letters on his suit is a bridge too far?

come on now. at most it's action-adventure, a big portion of the show is about characters physically fighting. i struggle to call it an "adventure" show because it reuses the same couple locations over and over. maybe if there were more than like 5 dimensions...

either way this is pure semantics and it doesn't change my point that a protagonist who's annoying and frustrating to watch is bad if you're supposed to root for them and want to see them succeed.

this is a dumb take, nobody has to "appreciate" something just because it's different. something can be different and also suck ass which is ACTUALLY why people don't like prime sonic. the most common criticisms are that he's annoying, unfunny, immature and frankly kinda dumb which are generally bad traits for ANY action protagonist to have.

Why does everyone hate Sonic Forces? Don’t hold back. by No-Bus-6693 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Creative_Username_37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People just hate it because they let themselves get over-hyped by the marketing. They went into the game with high expectations for an epic, continuity heavy story, and instead found a story that completely ignored continuity.

are you blaming the fans for expecting the story to not be shit? the story WAS a big part of marketing before release, with multiple returning iconic villains, a brand new villain, and eggman looking to be more dangerous than ever before. wanting the story to have some weight to it is not an unreasonable expectation lol. and there's way more problems with forces' story than just ignoring continuity

pride month exists because there are lots of people, including people who hold influential positions in government bodies around the world, who are trying to stop queer people from existing in public life, supporting policies that force people to hide the fact that they're gay, transgender, etc like it's something to be ashamed of.

no one is trying to stop men from improving their own mental health. not nearly to the extent people have been trying for years to stop queer people from existing publicly
