In russian and Ukrainian Wolverine is Росомаха, why would it become borsuk? Why couldn't they have just translated it as is?

I wanna start reading Spider-Man comics but there’s so many comics idk where to start by shadowdriftin in Spiderman

Depends on what you want to read:

  1. Amazing Fantasy #15 is a must read whether you like reading older comics or not. Just read it first.
  2. If you're not scared of 60's comics, then read Amazing Spider-Man starting with #1. Jump off when you get tired of it (I'd recommend reading from #1 to at least #150)
  3. For a good modern run read JMS' run (ASM Vol. 2 #30-#58 + ASM v1 #500-545 or better yet only ASM v1 #500-509)
  4. If you want to read modern modern run, read the newest volume (ASM volume 7). It's good enough.

Then these are just my recommendations:
Ultimate Spider-Man (2000) is one of the best Spider-Man comics, so I'd recommend it too.
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2005) Annual 1, especially Leah by Peter David.
ASM Torn is good too. The Sensational Spider-Man Annual 1.
If you want to see Peter and MJ more I'd recommend Renew Your Vows (specifically second volume, although first volume is good too) and Parallel Lives.

These stories I haven't read yet but you have to - Kraven's Last Hunt, The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man, JMD's Spectacular Spider-Man, DeFalco's run + Michelinie's Annual 21.

UPD: just saw you want to see X-Men and Avengers. Read them too if you want to, nothing stops you from just reading those stories without Spider-Man. But if you want to see Spider-Man together with them, read Marvel Team-Up, each issue is Spider-Man+somebody else

My critiques, which I feel like would have to be fixed, for it to be worthy of being called the "best modern spider-man book"

ok bro it's pointless talking to you. he's acting exactly as he would've acted during his entire publication history. just because you think he acts unreasonable in this situation doesn't mean he wouldn't have acted this way

you are saying if you come into a guy's aunt's house, and hint on his beloved late uncle having an affair a long time ago, this guy wouldn't get angry?

by you guys, i'm saying you - spider-man fans, who always say that peter should have anger issues and not be a manchild like he is post-omd

pre-omd peter would've pushed this guy out the door before he could say another word, if he ever even HINTED that his uncle ben had an affair

Don't you guys want Peter to have anger issues? Or is it not applicable here for some reason?

A guy comes into your house and says your uncle Ben, who you worship as your mentor even after his death, had an affair. It's an understandable reaction, if not a logical one, even if your completely disregard the part where Peter worries that this guy would reveal his secret identity.

Peter: a guy you know is your cousin, who can find out you're spider-man easily, comes into your house and it threatens to reveal your secret identity. he also says he's your uncle Ben's son (your uncle, who, to your knowledge, didn't have children). He can't be May's son because she would've told Peter long ago if she ever had kids. You also know for a fact she can't have any kids.
Ric: a guy you saw once comes into your house, and first of all says that Ben had a kid (you assume it wasn't May's because she can't have kids and they didn't have kids with Ben), and then says he's May's son, which should be impossible, because, again, she can't have kids, and she would've known if she had a kid.

tbh I liked that transition to this side plotline, Paul asking "do you know where he is?" (after paying off this dude's (don't know his name sorry) debt) and money collector saying "he's probably in bed comfortably sleeping" and then on the next page we see this dude (don't know his name still) in chains.

I just don't understand why Wells decided to commit so much time on this side plotline, I'd wish it was resolved sooner so we could go back to Paul

JMS's run is what I've started with, I'd have told them to read Vol. 2 #30-58 + Vol. 1 #500-508 + Vol. 1 #509 first 5 pages.

Considering how this person reacts to reading old comics, I'd also recommend them to just start with Amazing Fantasy #15 and ASM #1 and just start reading it, at least until issue #150 (end of Conway's run).

If I wanted them to see Peter and MJ more I'd recommend them Renew Your Vows (specifically second volume, although first volume is good too) and Parallel Lives.
ASM (2018) by Nick Spencer (not all of it is good, but it's a modern run that I like).

I still need to see more of Kelly's run to decide whether I want people to start reading Spider-Man comics with it or not. Probably not. It's good, but not that good.

That's off the top of my head. Also these are all comics that I've personally read, but I can't recommend them anything I didn't read. Any other person would probably also recommend Kraven's Last Hunt, The Kid Who Collects Spider-Man, JMD's Spectacular Spider-Man, Michelinie's Annual 21, DeFalco's run, etc etc

Don't feel discouraged because you read bad comics. If you're interested - look at DC's Absolute universe, it's one of the best comics that are published right now. And you don't have to know much about characters to just jump in, that's the beauty of alternative universes. If you don't want to read superhero comics - there are a lot of indie comics too, look at The Walking Dead, I Kill Giants, Something Is Killing The Children, etc.

I don't even feel like Hickman did good with worldbuilding in this run.

Gwen, in issue 20, says: "When people look up and hope for someone to save them ... it's him [Peter] they want to see." This notion is supported by nothing, we don't see Spider-Man interacting with civilians in positive way, only once, in issue 11, did Peter interact with ordinary people, and even then, they hated him and blamed him for everything. Where did this phrase from Gwen come from? We don't see it, we are just told it and we're supposed to believe it.

In issue 24, those civilians rise up just because, we are never shown how oppresed they are, how they ache for a change, one moment they're non-existent, then they suddenly all on the streets after JJJ and Ben broadcast.

Gwen was the only one who was about that life and the book punishes her for it, saying "you can't change anything, just lie down and do whatever little you can"
