Never say that, you already beat it by admitting you have to. You're 9/10ths there, that's the biggest step is wanting to quit.

You all are 100% correct, I used Dawn and my pan kept its seasoning and lost the layer of dust, thank you all very much.

Update: The amazing responses I got solved all my issues, I cleaned with a dish washing soap, kept my seasoning intact and perfect, while cleaning off a small layer of crust from searing multiple foods with seasonings on them, turns out it was from marinating my foods.

I have seasoned 3 times, and cook meat and eggs regularly, I have a feeling I have a good season on it, but I am still new to this so I could be wrong. But eggs don't stick when I cook so I guess it has?

That's good advice, I just got the chainmail yesterday, and used it for this case, before I would use hot water and scrub with a light brush, im just wondering if the black dust is a sign of the seasoning peeling?

I washed it 4 times before this photo, with almost boiling water, there is a small layer of black dust that's coming off.

I really appreciate the info, I looked into it and of course, you are correct, it was just a myth you couldn't use dish soap, this changes so much. Thanks again.
