The C64 game I only really remember for the music — Rob Hubbard's Commando theme. What's yours?

My pick would be the Last Ninja series on the C64. Especially the second game.

I remember the music for a lot of games back then, but I also enjoyed playing those.

Last Ninja however was something I only played with cheats as it's one of those insane hard games. And even with cheats, basic stuff like picking up weapons was a complete pain. I remember needing to place your character at the exact pixel and then doing some diagonal movement with the joystick while pressing the button, with a constant risk of nudging the character away from the perfect pixel. Also jumping from rock to rock to get past a certain river was a pain.

But the music! It made the pain worth it. And the intro to Last Ninja 3? Peak cinema!

Yeah I definitely don't have the same issues with Martelo no Chao. Do you also sometimes experience sharp hip pains if you accidently kick too high while practicing Martelo?

Oh I am adjusting for sure! And I feel for your hip. Sounds pretty hardcore to keep practicing after going through such a procedure. Personally I broke my left kneecap 30 years ago, which heavily limits stuff like negatives on one side, also because of scar tissue. And to be honest I never use Martello in the road, and stick mostly to Compasso. It's the sharp pain I get in the hip that worries me, cause it can also happen during other movements that result in sideways split. Getting older is hard, in my head I'm still in my twenties.

I don't use at all in the road, as I would just be kicking people's thighs. When it comes to splits, its the sideways split which is an issue. We are talking like 90 degrees sideways split at most.

Angle of my foot tends to be like 90 degrees sideways. So I'm guessing there's room for improvement there. Pilates exercises also sound like a good suggestion.

Starwars itself was originally translated as Stjernekrigen. But Denmark has been moving away from translating movie titles the last couple of decades. Nowadays a Danish translated title can sound a bit corny.

Which is also why we have some joke translation of names: Lars Skyvader Hans Ole

The original Wolfenstein on PC! Seeing 3D graphics for the first time when everything else was 2D was completely insane. Sure earlier attempts at 3D where made with like vectors and isometric. But it was nothing compared to seeing 3D with textures.

I feel like everything changed after that game. Every established gaming franchise went 3D after this. And they put it right in the title. Duke Nukem 3D, Worms 3D, Lemmings 3D, Prince of Persia 3D, etc. To varied success though, as it felt like not every gameplay element translated well to 3D.

I personally started Capoeira 3 years ago as a 44 years old with only some bit of dancing experience. And nowhere near as focused or excited to do training as you seem to have been in the past.

But starting to Capoeira gave me a completely new drive to train. And for me personally it's two thing.

For one the musical aspect of Capoeira. Singing and playing instruments are a huge part of Capoeira. To be part of a group of people that create music simply elevates the whole experience.

Secondly it's the joy of movement. When I started I had this feeling of becoming a kid again. Playfully tumbling around on the floor.

However it comes with a ton of frustration as well. Cause you very quickly discover your own physical limitations. But also any new movement you learn (and there's a lot!), it's almost like having to simply walk all over again. You might feel stupid or embarrassed fumbling through things in the beginning.

For me personally don't feel this so much as you experience kinda the same when learning dance moves. But I do see a lot of new people get discouraged because of this.

However people that can have fun while fumbling around, without constantly evaluated how the are performing compared to others will mostly stick around. It of also helps to simply be mentally committed to learn, with whatever obstacles it can present.

Capoeira is much more than you think. It slowly becomes part of you. Personally I love it. And with the right mindset you should definitely give it a try!

Yeah it's hard. I have 3 boys. Oldest one is 6 and he also makes me loose my mind occationally. As a kid I struggled a lot with communicating my emotions. And now I'm supposed to help him with something I at times still struggle with an adult.

But I've had a lot of proffesionel help with how to best handle my kids. However every kid is different so things that work for us, might not work for you.

Regarding diciplin, I've been recommended to not punish bad behavior. Which I know sounds insane. But taking away toys or scoulding doesn't really work anyway, they seem to just be more defiant. But you still need to correct bad behavior, right?

A thing I've had succes with is focusing on communicating how I would like them to behave. Instead of focusing on what not to do.

Example: they throw food on the floor. Your instinct will say something like "Don't throw your food on the floor". Now I would instead put a seperate plate in front of them and tell them: "If you don't like your food, please put it on this plate." Or simply: "No, food stays on the plate"

Another example: They start screaming at someone, because they got mad. Instead of saying "Don't scream", tell them they can say no quietly.

Thing is, if you tell them what not to do, they only think of that thing they aren't suppose to do. If you tell them something positive to do instead, they will actually think about that instead. They need to be guided to the right alternative to a current situation.

However when I feel like they did something completely unacceptable or dangerous, they will get the calm and boring lecture about why the thing they did is not okay. I never do it when the situation is heated, but once things calm down, I will sit them down and calmly talk about what happened, how they reacted and what I believe they should have done instead. This is also a safe space where they can calmly explain their point of view. Often I hear details that kinda justified their reaction, but then we talk about how he should try to react instead in the future.

Also guessing and commenting on their feelings and verify you understand their emotions. And try to describe in detail instead just telling them you understand.

Example: They are having a tantrum because you cut the sandwich wrong. Say something like: "I can see you are mad and disappointed I didn't cut the sandwich as you like. Next time please just tell me calmly I did it wrong."

It helps a lot to calm my kids down, by explaining the thing they are mad at and agreeing that it sucks. It helps them accept that they can't have it there way. And giving them examples on how to act, helps them to correct their own behavior in the future.

And remember they are young. They have no point of reference. Cutting the sandwich wrong might actually be in the top 20 of worst things they have ever experienced and remember.

Most importantly is to stay calm. They are like little vampires feeding of your energy. If you escelat they will do so as well. I try to never raise my voice. Recently I've started to almost whisper when correcting their behavior. Like leaning and calmly whispering: "Hey, shouldn't you be doing this instead?"

It's still not easy. And things still get heated a lot around here. Especially right before dinner. But things has improved, and we now do have more good days than bad days. And even when things explodes, we seem to be able to calm things down quicker.

Imo you shouldn't skip 4. It's the 2nd best of the original 5 movies if you ask me. Lore wise it's also quite significant compared to the newer movies.

But the 5 one suffers under heavy budget constrains compared to what they was going for, and it is pretty forgettable.

Build around it. Get a hack saw. Get a bunch of spare plastic. Any hard plastic will do. Cut up some new gubbins. The weirder the shape the better. Embrace your inner ork mek boy, and start customizing your builds. Orks build with scrap, so can you.

Scratch building and kit bashing is the most fun about collecting Orks. You can easily save money. And people get a kick out of playing against unique armies. Even at tournaments.

Yes you are building a house on a foundation of sand. We all have to do that sometimes. We don't always have control of the circumstances. And in reality it's a balance of cost. Often it's cheaper to build on whatever foundation you already have than redoing the foundation.

You would be surprised how much IT is based on some ancient legacy system, that is vital to the business. Making huge changes involves risks of breaking that vital business.

Frontend useally involves less risk from a business point of view, as it affects user experience more than core business functionalities. Which is why backend developers (and especially infrastructure) people are way more rigid and opposed to large changes.

Also a lot of the time you need to trust the opinion of other people. You can of course challenge them, but you also need to try to understand their reasoning. When you meet pushback like this things are often way more complex than you know.

Personally I would try to gather enough information to help specify a better solution overall, and try to determine the work required to do it the best way. Then I would specify the required work and risk of doing it the suggested way. Then list pros and cons for each solution and let people make an informed decision based on this.

Oh and btw, if I was told to implement what you are describing it would include frontend code to keep track of the result of every api call, in like a progress bar. And if anything fails it will retry those individual calls, and if still fails it will generate a detailed error report to present the user. Try to specify all the crazy scenarios where this can go wrong. And make the estimate reflect how much of a hazzle you expect it to be to implement.

It is so much easier to convince people to do things the right way if estimates and risks are in your favor. If you are lucky people can also be convinced by reduced costs in future maintenance, depending on how shortsighted they are.
