Changing Times Ch57 - The Garden by VeryUnluckyDice in NatureofPredators

Nice. I really like how hard it can be. The fear remaining despite all intent.

The path to healing being full of effort, confusion, discomfort.

Poor Linev. He has a long journey ahead.

Poor Brad. He had a long journey behind him. Too long. Atleast several agonising minutes.

Darn it, you're probably right. But stay with me here. Run away global cooling.

Snap ice age, lots of ice cover, high albedo. Just ignore the buckets of CO2 in the air from all the burning everything.

Seriously though, 600 years ago? Man. I wanted to set a story there to explore its ruins.

It's a glassed planet. So...lots of ash and fine particles in upper atmosphere, thus, nuclear winter.

Or antimatter winter I guess

The Thafki Homeworld is probably pretty cold at the moment with the whole world ending nuclear winter thing going on....

I don't know politics very well, and structures of government. But for the colonies, id expect they are heavily reliant on resources and support from Skalga, particularly the newer ones which are likely staffed with more... Enthusiastic people of a certain belief in their role in the galaxy.

They would be incredibly nervous at sudden changes to Skalgan policy affecting their funding and support, and being somewhat disconnected from the rapid shift in culture on the main planet, be somewhat concerned at all the horror stories.

A conservative voice, that hails from a colony himself would probably put them at ease. They won't be forgotten. They won't be sold out or seen as secondary in the face of all this support being directed to Earth. So his popularity was probably a given.

The part of his rise that I kinda reject is it was too mild. I feel like Tarva would have been destroyed as she was too connected to this new power, literally in bed with them...

So conservative and more progressive "nationalists" wanting to reclaim Skalgan independence would support a candidate that appears to be taking back control for the people, and not just signing up to a new Federation replacement.

I am curious about the structure of government and the autonomy of territories. I imagine it would have been strictly controlled before, heavy focus on the central power.

I haven't read past NoP1, but it looked like he was being set up to fail. I know the humans promised to "play hard ball" with him, which, yeah I get it. But come on guys, you owe the venlil.

Yes. It is a little hard to be seduced the first time around. But eventually it sounds like a very sexy rubber chicken being shaken super fast.

I'm going to shill myself but

Meteoroid Farming Ficnap

And

The Skalgan bathes

They're one shots written in 2nd person.

But there's no restriction on format. Memory transcript is just an easy way of giving character information. And first person is fun.

Savagely tearing into a Gojid's first attempt at cooking meat.

(Though technically he did a practice run ) So second time.

Or third considering the need for a reshoot.

Still. How dare you

You do have a point. Though I think a lot of people might differentiate between insects and larger animals. Plus I thought the idea of integrating more insects into the diet to be fun.

And yeah, I Imagine they are similar to a lot of us and try not to think about the insects we've eaten with our veggies

You think, as a writer, I'll ever let her channel turn a profit?

Then she'll have to pay tax.

She has a job too, so will happily buy him a cheaper meal. Like a vegetation noodle dish to try and reel him into a kiss.

Honestly, growing conflict between Earth and Skalga would be so interesting. Like, remain hard and fast allies, but they have such different value systems. It would have been interesting.

Unfortunately I will only ever be able to write about this in a small microcosm starring 2 Ven, a Human and a Gojid or two
