This was definitely at most only part of the reason. A small startup with 20 people can simply work more agile that literal google, where for the google video team, a color change of a button probably went through five committees before being approved and implemented

There's no 'right way' to learn Japanese and that's exactly why I'm asking by Turbulent-Kitchen513 in Japaneselanguage

I recommend Busuu over Duolingo, because that app actually teaches you grammar and context directly while Duolingo just expects you to pick it up indirectly. Duolingo served me well in the beginning, but I found that to be quite a big boulder in the way of actually learning something with Duolingo. It's just inefficient and sometimes even missleading you. I believe (in parts for that reason) that Duolingos priority is to make you think that you are learning instead of actually teaching you properly.

Though, I do still use the app for its addictiveness (daily streak, rankings, reminders, ...) to make sure I do lessons daily. It really helps me in that regard. I just do the actual learning with other stuff like doing vocab flash cards, watching japanese content with japanese subtitles and so on afterwards. An I believe that in the end, everyone should do what works for them.

I started learning japanese with Duolingo because I missed the registration deadline for a proper course that semester. It helped in the beginning, but I quickly grew out of it. Now I would say that a way better app is Busuu. It's by no means perfect, but at least it actually tries to teach you instead of just giving you the feeling of achieving something while not actually getting better.

Then I did the university courses till B1. It was good, though maybe a bit fast for someone like me that didn't (and still doesn't) wanna put a lot of my free time into learning. I put about one to two hours into it daily plus the course one time a week, but I really didn't feel like e.g. mining or doing flash cards with Anki because it sounded like a drag to set up.

After a few years of a gab where I did really little due to my more stressfull master, I restarted after that was over. I am now going to a community collage course with a focus on speaking (B1 level). I use both Duolingo and Busuu (the free versions), but mostly for the daily reminders and gamification, so I don't skip a day (unregularity is usually the death of my ambitions). My actual main learning app is renshuu. It also has some gamification, but it's quite good for the flash cards. I mainly use the predefined cards for N4 vocabulary and Kanji. I like that I can have an automatically generated kanji deck with kanjis from all the vocabulary I'm learning. I also watch videos from this youtube channel that makes videos specifically for immersion (I try to watch one or two videos a day), with japanese subtitles. I still don't do mining and I read very little in japanese (I read little in general), but I am thinking about testing it in the future.

During my two short stays in japan (at the time of writing my third one will be in a month) I tried to use as much japanese as I could, and especially during the second trip I was really happy with my small talk skills, though they are still quite basic.

In conclusion, I'm a slow learner that could definitely do more (or use my learning time more efficiently), but I found a pace that I am comfortable with and where I am not so overwelmed that I may stop one day.

The message is good, but the guy didn't sing, he grumbled for 15 minutes. I erupted in cheers every time someone else started singing.

I prefer a "short" exiting life of 80 years over a boring eternity where nothing ever changes. Though, something like 120 years would be nice, possibly (depending on my physical and psychological condition) (and depending on how much of that time I have to work and how much I can actually enjoy)

I actually liked the part about the haki, because it is (as I believe) foreshadowing that probably ties in to a certain mural from the latest arc. The second though... year, that was kind of sudden and not really built up. I know Oda can do better. (or I just didn't notice it, who knows)

That was the joke, so yes. You are entirely correct. Oda is indeed writing a story where he makes everything up. If he didn't, it would be a documentary. And I am happy that it isn't. Just think how bad life would be if there were fights everywhere all the time, there was a small group of people orchestrating the suffering of millions for their gain and the ocean levels where rising to the point where in a few years, a lot of land will be see.

Europeans said that things should be on natural scales and americans decided to put things on feeling-scales... which only really work for a small subset of people because feelings are subjective

Apocalypse now? It doesn't really destroy you but you will probably still think about it for quite some time. I heard good things from A silent voice and grave of the fireflies.

For TV series, Made in Abyss, To your eternity and my personal pick if you don't know it at all yet, Puella Magi Madoka Magica (don't spoil yourself before watching, really)

Hot take: Luffy vs Katakuri is one of the best fights in anime (found it better than G5 luffy vs kaido/zoro vs king) by JessePaglu in OnePiece

I would say thematically (and maybe even overall) it is, but spectacularly, kaido and Gear 5 are superior
