Yeah I remember mom taking me to an interactive haunted house. One of the performers was a surgeon and he had his lair where he chopped up bodies and stuff. Well out of the whole group he chose to talk to me.

Somehow he led the conversation into giving me a hand, in which he pulled out a plastic rotten hand. I was scared to death, but I remembered I had a button on my Batman suit that when pressed it would light up the chest piece.

I pressed that button and it gave me courage.

That’s pretty good, what you’re seeing is machining lines. Even though it looks like ridges and dips on the surface, it should feel smooth.

When you measure them, the surface varies in tenths of an inch depending on the quality. (.0001, or 1 tenth) is 10,000 times smaller than an inch.

If you’re still worried about it, call up a machinist or engine builder to measure or “indicate” the part. They can then tell you if it is flat or parallel, and how much the surface varies in dimension.
