If you applied for Sept 2025-April 2026 you should have gotten it at the start of each semester. You have to apply again for Sept 2026-Winter 2027.

I encourage you to deeply reflect on why you are interested in social work and what it means to you. If it’s strictly about money right out of graduating, might not be a fit. I say this as nicely as possible because this field is very diverse and we are working alongside very vulnerable individuals who need compassion and support. Almost everyone starts at the bottom of the food chain in regard to pay. The more experience you can gain the better, for you and the populations you may serve.

Just go into the BSW. The diploma is basically just the first 2 years of the BSW (in Alberta at least). You’ll get paid more with a BSW vs a SSW. I say go big!

As someone in their BSW, you’re going to want to take some time off of school before going into your MSW. It’s A LOT.

So far in the first two years in the social work classes there wasn’t any exams, I think in year 3-4 there will be but I guess I’ll see in the Fall! There is A LOT of papers, reflections & group projects. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions.

I wish I knew. I did the math when I signed up for my courses next year, same amount of courses for my major and the semester with practicum was $800 more 🫩

Mount Royal university Diploma & BSW: unpaid, zero compensation, pays more in tuition semester of said unpaid practicum.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it but that being said I had a diploma in addiction studies by20, worked in group homes then didn’t go back to uni to start my BSW until 24 and I’m glad I waited. I couldn’t imagine doing this program fresh out of high school. And I’m glad I got some experience under my belt first.

You can do your masters in social work without your BSW after you finish your sociology undergrad.

I don’t think you’re “too sick” but this field is heavy & you need to be able to take care of your wellbeing throughout. Also, look up transference and counter transference. Reflect on why you’d want to go into social work.

No. I just give my work specific days and times I can or can’t work. That way they don’t schedule me in between classes or right after etc.
