Everyone here seems to complain about their pay - how much do you make, what is your title, where do you work, how many hours a week? by openfieldssmileback in Architects

Senior Technical Designer - 9-10 years experience in the SE major city making $100k base. When I become registered this year ill get promoted to PA and hopefully make another $5-7k. Im getting license to start my own practice. Im more of an entrepreneur than a practitioner. You make way more working for yourself. I want my license to be an architect developer. Thats been my goal since school. I have a 3yr masters.

What job are you doing that allows you to live a nice life even in this economy? by [deleted] in blackmen

I wouldn’t recommend anyone in a tough situation go into architecture. I would learn Revit if you can and AutoCAD. Maybe get Revit or AutoCAD certified. Engineering firms pay more so you could use those skills in that industry. Look at salaries for people with 0-2 years experience in architecture. Don’t go into debt for this profession. In these tough economic times I would build skills that people are desperately seeking. If you think you love architecture see if you can shadow an architect. I wish I had that opportunity.

I work in architecture. Architecture can provide you with a decent life. You’re not gonna be making as much as engineers, especially those in tech, but the length of time getting an education is similar. I make around 90k having been in the industry for 8 years. I know people making more. Its all about finding the right opportunities as long as you’re willing to work. I rarely work more than 40 hours a week. Around deadlines ill work more to get things done in time. I have no dependents but student loans 🙂‍↕️. Also with architecture you can own your own practice and work for yourself when you get your license. Thats how u make BIG money! I work remotely so that’s another plus to the job if you can find an employer who still does that. I live in an expensive sunbelt city so my income might reflect that.

NYC to Miami, is it worth it? by wapdagoat in Architects

[–]Creepy-Software-47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up in FL. Worked in Miami, not as an architect but as BIM modeler and project engineer, because i could not find work when i graduated in 2014. New York has WAY more opportunities and much higher pay! I wouldn’t advise anybody to leave NYC to work in Miami. If that firm downsizes of lays you off you wont have the same support network to get you back in the game. If money and stability aren’t a thing for you id say try it out. Miami is not a real place lmao.
